How to wash a sailing jacket to keep it performing properly.

A sailing jacket is one of those garments that, on board, quickly stops being just clothing. It becomes a second skin, an indispensable ally when the wind picks up, the sea comes on deck, and the hours at the helm stretch far beyond what was planned. And precisely for this reason, its maintenance is often underestimated: it is taken for granted until, suddenly, it stops doing its job. Water no longer runs off, moisture stays trapped inside, zippers begin to stiffen, and the feeling of protection gives way to discomfort.

Washing a sailing jacket correctly is not a secondary task, but an integral part of its working life. Salt, sweat, oils, and environmental dirt act slowly but constantly on the fibers and technical membranes, compromising their performance. Knowing how to wash a sailing jacket, which products to use, and which precautions to take means extending its lifespan and making sure it continues to work when it really matters.

Why a sailing jacket needs to be washed

One of the most widespread beliefs among boaters and sailors is that a sailing jacket should be washed as little as possible to avoid damaging it. Actually, exactly the opposite is true. Salt water, once dry, leaves crystalline residues that settle on the surface and inside the fibers. Over time, these residues stiffen the fabric, hinder breathability, and compromise the material’s ability to repel water. This is why it is key to know how to wash a sailing jacket properly.

To this is added the effect of sweat, which is inevitable even in the coldest seasons. Body salts penetrate the inner layers of the garment and, if not removed, alter the behavior of the waterproof membrane. A dirty sailing jacket therefore breathes less effectively, manages internal moisture poorly, and gives a damp feeling even when there is no actual water ingress.

Washing a sailing jacket regularly is therefore a functional operation, not an aesthetic one. It is necessary to keep the entire system it is made of efficient, consisting of the outer fabric, the inner membrane, and the surface treatments.

VennVind sailing jacket

The most common mistakes in sailing jacket maintenance

In most cases, people damage a sailing jacket without even realizing it. The first mistake is to consider it an “indestructible” garment and treat it like an old windbreaker. Harsh detergents, high-temperature washes, or the use of fabric softeners quickly compromise the performance of technical fabrics. In fact, the additives found in common laundry products tend to clog the pores of the waterproof membrane, making it less breathable and less effective over time.

Another common mistake is forced drying. Exposing a sailing jacket to direct heat sources such as radiators, heaters, or full sun accelerates material aging and can irreversibly deform some critical areas, especially taped seams and reinforced sections.

Improper storage also plays an important role. Putting away a sailing jacket that is still damp in a locker or a closed bag creates the ideal environment for mold, bad odors, and fabric degradation, especially on board where ventilation and temperature are not always easy to control.

How to wash a sailing jacket: preparation before washing

Before proceeding with the actual wash, it is essential to dedicate a few minutes to preparing the garment. All zippers should be closed, including those on the pockets and ventilation openings. This precaution prevents the teeth from damaging the fabric during machine washing or hand washing.

The adjustment straps, cuffs, and Velcro collars should be properly secured to avoid friction points. Removable hoods should also be left attached, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, so that the washing process is uniform across all parts of the garment.

A preliminary visual check also helps identify any oil or fuel stains that may require a gentle pre-treatment, always using products compatible with technical fabrics.

How to wash a sailing jacket in the washing machine without damaging it

Machine washing is now allowed for most modern sailing jackets, provided some specific rules are followed. The water temperature should remain low, generally around 30°, using a gentle cycle that limits spinning. Excessive agitation stresses the fibers and can compromise the internal taped seams.

The detergent is a key element: it must be specifically designed for waterproof and breathable technical clothing. Traditional soaps, as well as bleach and fabric softeners, should be avoided because they leave residues that alter the membrane’s performance. The dosage should also be moderate: a clean sailing jacket is one free of residues, not one soaked in fragrance.

A thorough rinse is just as important as the wash itself. Completely removing the detergent allows the jacket to regain part of its original breathability and prepares the fabric for any subsequent water-repellent treatment.

Hand washing as a safe alternative

When possible, hand washing is a particularly gentle option. Using lukewarm water and a suitable detergent, it is possible to work with greater control on areas prone to dirt, such as cuffs, collar, and shoulder regions.

It is important to avoid vigorous rubbing and twisting of the fabric. After washing, rinse thoroughly until the water is completely clear and free of foam. Even in this case, haste is the enemy of the sailing jacket: it is better to spend a few extra minutes than to compromise a garment designed to last for years.

How to wash a sailing jacket: proper drying and moisture management

A sailing jacket that has been washed correctly can be ruined in an instant by improper drying. The best method remains natural air drying, in a shaded and well-ventilated area. Hanging the jacket on a sturdy hanger, avoiding folds and overlaps, allows moisture to evaporate evenly.

It is important to ensure the garment is completely dry before storing it. Even minimal residual moisture can, over time, cause unpleasant odors and material deterioration, especially if the jacket is stored on board.

Restoring water repellency over time

With use and repeated washes, the surface water-repellent treatment gradually loses effectiveness. The sign is clear: water no longer beads on the surface but tends to “soak” into the fabric. In these cases, it is possible to restore water repellency using products specifically designed for this purpose, applied to a clean and dry garment.

These treatments do not replace the internal waterproof membrane, but they allow the outer fabric to perform correctly, promoting water runoff and also improving overall breathability.

Zippers, seals, and details: maintenance that makes a difference

A sailing jacket is not made of fabric alone. Zippers, seams, reinforcements, and adjustment systems are essential elements for its functionality. After washing and drying, paying attention to the zippers helps prevent oxidation and sticking. Light periodic lubrication keeps them smooth and extends the garment’s lifespan.

Collars, cuffs, and seals, especially on more technical jackets, deserve constant care. Keeping them clean and dry preserves their elasticity and effectiveness over time.

Off-season storage

When the sailing jacket is not used for extended periods, proper storage becomes crucial. Hanging it in a dry and ventilated area is always preferable to storing it in closed bags or lockers. Avoiding prolonged compression preserves the fabric’s structure and reduces the formation of permanent creases. A well-washed, dry, and properly stored sailing jacket is ready to go back into action without surprises on the first challenging outing.

In an increasingly demanding boating market, Magazzù confirms its unrivalled ability to combine Italian design, technical innovation and tailor-made customization. After years of consolidated experience with iconic and versatile models, the Sicilian boatbuilder brings its new vision of large maxi-RIBs into the spotlight, offering two interpretations of the same construction philosophy: the MX-15 Gran Coupé and the MX-15 Explorer.

With these two new models, Magazzù expands its range of high-end maxi-RIBs and underlines its vocation for meeting the expectations of a clientele that is ever more attentive to technological equipment and the emotional yachting experience. But the real strength of these two maxi-RIBs is space: within just 15 meters in length, they can comfortably accommodate up to 24 people, making it possible to enjoy fun days at sea with plenty of company, without giving anything up and while fully preserving the style and elegance that have always distinguished Magazzù creations. In this way, the Palermo-based yard strengthens its position on the international scene as a benchmark for sophisticated aesthetics, high performance at sea and extreme customization.

MX-15 Gran Coupé: elegance, comfort and performance in a 15-meter maxi-RIB

The MX-15 Gran Coupé represents the natural evolution of Magazzù’s successful Coupé line, designed as a next-generation maxi-RIB capable of redefining the concept of freedom at sea. With an overall length of 15.20 meters and a beam of 4.85 meters, this maxi-RIB stands out for its elegant, clean lines, the enlarged deckhouse and a hard top with tempered glass that enhances protection and comfort while cruising.

Onboard spaces are designed to enjoy the sea with maximum conviviality and relaxation: large sunbathing areas, lounge zones with convertible tables and refined teak details create a perfect balance between sportiness and comfort. The latest-generation stepped hull is engineered to ensure stable and efficient behavior at sea, optimizing the balance between power and fuel consumption.

magazzu-MX-15-Gran-Coupe

Even from a performance point of view, the MX-15 Gran Coupé certainly does not disappoint. The model is available with different propulsion configurations (outboard or sterndrive) and can reach a top speed of 50 knots thanks to a total output of up to 1,800 hp. The large capacity of the fuel and water tanks (1,000 and 350 liters respectively) and CE category B certification make this hull suitable both for day cruising and for multi-day adventures in complete autonomy. With this model, Magazzù delivers yet another masterpiece, looking toward the creation of ever larger, more refined and exclusive boats.

MX-15 Explorer: the art of Magazzù’s bespoke boating

If the MX-15 Gran Coupé is already a refined model in its own right, with the MX-15 Explorer Magazzù takes customization to truly tailor-made levels. This maxi-RIB is part of the Sicilian brand’s Signature Collection, a genuine creative journey in which every detail is designed to measure for the owner, like a couture garment for those who want their boat to tell their own story and express their personality.

MX-15

The MX-15 Explorer retains the dimensions and all the core technical features of the MX-15 Gran Coupé – such as the stepped hull and power of up to 1,800 hp – but stands out for its highly customized development process and for some refined aesthetic differences, starting with the striking reverse windshield. Born from a direct dialogue between owner and shipyard, in the MX-15 Explorer every choice – from the interior layout to the materials used for the finishes – is treated as an exclusive project. The result is a one-off, unrepeatable maxi-RIB, perfect for those who do not settle for a standard boat but want a true personal expression on the sea.

This philosophy translates into a model that combines high performance, all-encompassing comfort and distinctive style, while fully preserving Magazzù’s nautical DNA. Thanks to adaptable engine configurations and a versatile usage concept, the MX-15 Explorer is designed for those who see boating as an experience of personal exploration, without compromise.

MX-15-EXPLORER-2

The forward-raked windshield that makes the difference

In the design of modern maxi-RIBs, the windshield is no longer just a protective element, but a functional component of the onboard architecture. For this reason, Magazzù has chosen to enhance the Explorer version of the MX-15 with a windshield raked forward, representing an evolution compared to the traditional aft-raked solution. This innovation delivers tangible benefits in terms of comfort, safety and overall cruising quality.

From an aerodynamic standpoint, the forward inclination allows the airflow to be intercepted more directly, progressively deflecting it upward and to the sides. This reduces turbulence around the console area and limits wind impact on the helmsman and passengers, especially when cruising upwind or at higher cruising speeds. A similar effect can be seen in spray management, as the forward-raked windshield works as an active barrier, pushing water and spray away from the helm station. Compared to an aft-raked windshield, the forward-raked solution reduces the likelihood of water being drawn inside by moving air, keeping the deck drier even in rougher sea conditions.

running

Visibility also benefits from this configuration, as the glass angle reduces reflections and glare, providing a cleaner, more continuous view of the horizon. This detail has a direct impact on safety and helm quality, particularly during long passages.

The strengths of the MX-15 Explorer’s windshield also extend to comfort. Reduced direct pressure from wind and water helps limit fatigue for the person at the helm, making driving more natural and relaxed. This is a particularly valuable advantage on boats designed for transfers, fast cruising or extended use, such as the MX-15 Explorer. In addition, the forward-raked windshield integrates more effectively with the T-top and hard top, creating a better-protected and more coherent helm area from a design standpoint. The result is a more modern, technical design language inspired by the automotive world, where aesthetics and functionality move in the same direction.

MX-15-EXPLORER

Last but not least, a benefit that is often less obvious but extremely relevant concerns integration with the T-top. The forward-raked windshield allows the usable surface of the T-top to be set further aft and expanded, making it more regular and structurally exploitable. This translates into greater possibilities for installing solar panels, SUP boards, sports equipment, antennas and accessories, without compromising the boat’s aesthetic and functional balance. A solution that meets the needs of more advanced use, focused on autonomy and versatility. In short, compared to the traditional aft-raked solution, the forward-raked windshield represents a conscious design choice: it improves comfort underway, optimizes wind and spray management, and helps define a more advanced and refined driving experience.

Measured yet steady global growth

In recent years, CEM has recorded exceptional growth in the boating market, with an increase in annual turnover and solid commercial expansion. The company closed 2024 with a +20% increase in revenues. This success is not accidental, but rather the result of a constant commitment to research and development, which has led to the creation of cutting-edge products. Thanks to a targeted internationalization strategy and a series of strategic partnerships, CEM products are available and appreciated in every corner of the globe, from North America to Asia, from Europe to Australia. The company’s distribution network has become increasingly widespread, ensuring excellent customer service and timely technical support wherever required.

Combining the latest technological innovations with the great artisanal tradition of Made in Italy. This is the mission of Halma Rib, the established Sicilian shipyard specialized in the design and construction of high-end RIBs designed to meet the expectations of the most demanding owners and to offer a truly unique boating experience. The result of two full years of development, the Halma Rib HR 30 perfectly embodies this philosophy and winks at those who want to enjoy the sea aboard a high-performance, seductive yet at the same time comfortable and safe boat.

We had already fallen in love with it last year when we tested it in its inboard/outboard version: the sense of freedom and the adrenaline of that sea trial stayed with us. And that’s exactly why, as soon as the shipyard gave us the chance to test the outboard version, we didn’t think twice—the opportunity was simply too good to pass up. So we flew to Palermo for a new, exciting video test.

HALMA RIB HR 30 Sea Trial

The Gulf of Mondello welcomes us with a surprisingly warm and sunny day. It’s December, but the air feels almost summery: temperatures are around 20 degrees and the sea, virtually flat calm, promises ideal conditions to really put this RIB to the test and fully assess the qualities of its hull.

Our sea trial begins at idle speed, holding 600 rpm at 3 knots. Right away, we can feel that stability is out of the ordinary. Powering our Halma Rib HR 30 is a pair of 300 hp Mercury Verado outboards, for a total output of 600 horsepower, perfectly matched to a RIB of this size which, fully loaded, weighs around 3 to 3.5 tons. We speed up and, at 11 knots, the boat get up onto the plane instantly, levels out on the water and naturally accelerates up to 16–17 knots, delivering outstanding planing stability without even needing to engage Active Trim.

Halma RIB HR 30 outboard

We accelerate a bit more and settle at one of the more “traditional” cruising speeds: at 20 knots, the two Mercury engines mounted on the transom are turning at 3,000 rpm while burning just 46 liters per hour, equal to 0.34 liters per nautical mile. Really impressive.

But we want to see how our Halma Rib HR 30 behaves at higher speeds, so we accelerate to 25 knots, another very interesting cruising speed, where consumption stabilizes at 61 liters per hour (0.37 liters per nautical mile). A quick push on the throttles and we reach 30 knots. The engines are at 4,150 rpm and fuel burn is only 80 liters per hour, still very reasonable. The real surprise, however, comes at 40 knots: at 5,000 rpm, fuel consumption settles at 105 liters per hour, which means just 0.33 liters per nautical mile. In other words, the boat’s real consumption remains almost unchanged as speed increases. An uncommon performance for boats in this category which highlights a very interesting side of the Halma Rib HR 30’s character: a RIB capable of fast transfers without having to worry about refueling.

But now it’s time to push hard and really put this boat’s hull to the test. We bring the speed back to 30 knots and, without slowing down, turn hard to starboard. The boat heels over but remains practically “glued” to the water, giving us an immediate sense of great stability and safety. The deck stays perfectly dry and, even when we counter-turn to port, the boat keeps running confidently, never nervous, tracing a wide circle on the water with almost geometric precision. Our maneuvers have kicked up waves of about a meter and a half, so without hesitation we decide to take them head-on, increasing speed to see what happens. Well… nothing happens. The hull slices through and spreads the waves in an extraordinarily soft manner, without any jolts, delivering a level of comfort that is truly surprising.

Halma RIB HR 30 turning

Still not satisfied, we throw our Halma Rib HR 30 into a very wide but fast turn. We’re doing 40 knots and once again directional stability proves to be perfect. One last counter-turn in an attempt to put the boat in trouble, but nothing … the feeling is always the same: running as if on an imaginary rail, with the agility of a jet ski, yet offering the stability and comfort that only the iconic boats from this Sicilian shipyard can deliver.

As mentioned, above, sea conditions in the Gulf of Mondello today are ideal for pushing the boat to its limits, so once we’re back on a straight course we push the throttles all ahead to test top speed. The two Mercury Verados raise their voices and acceleration becomes downright thrilling. The boat stretches out on the water and, in just a handful of seconds, we’re at 30 knots, then 40, then 45… 52.9 knots top speed! An astonishing performance for a RIB just 9 meters long.

Finally, the most eagerly awaited moment: the acceleration test. We slow down, come to a stop, place the throttles in neutral, engage forward gear and… full throttle! 10, 20, 30, 40, 45, 50 knots… 53.1 knots in just 19 seconds! An extraordinary performance, clear proof of a well-designed hull and build quality that has nothing to fear from rivals in this market segment.

The Halma Rib HR 30 in detail

As the forerunner of a range that also includes two other models, the Halma Rib HR 30 represents a perfect blend of elegance and practicality. The exposed teak delivers an immediately striking visual impact, while the “widened” bow maximizes the usable space on board.

Centrally positioned, the helm station features a walkaround layout that ensures easy access to the bow and smooth, unobstructed circulation toward the stern. All instrumentation is within easy reach and finished with great attention to detail, offering a driving experience that is both comfortable and fun. The console housing the two forward-facing helm seats also accommodates, in its lower section, a refrigerator and a fold-out table, while on top it features a galley unit with sink and induction cooktop. Hidden beneath the helm cockpit, a practical changing room with a toilet completes the picture of a layout that is clearly very well thought out.

Moving aft, we find a large linear sofa that can comfortably seat 3–4 people, along with a huge sunbathing area for enjoying the sunshine in total relaxation. But we’re ready to bet that the most sought-after spot on this Halma Rib HR 30 will undoubtedly be the aft platform: a true beach club that not only makes getting in and out of the water easy, but also offers plenty of space for water activities to be shared with family and friends.

Conclusions

The result of a careful and innovative design effort, the Halma Rib HR 30 combines the generous spaces typically found on a 10-meter boat with extraordinary hull performance and handling, delivering a truly unique boating experience. Every outing becomes a moment of freedom and enjoyment, where comfort, elegance and harmony with the sea come together in perfect balance.

The Emirati shipyard Gulf Craft lands at the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show 2025 (ADBSW) with the Oryx range and a world premiere that marks a new step in the brand’s growth: the new 37LX, a model that fits perfectly into the evolution of the lineup and confirms its direction.

It all began last February at the Dubai International Boat Show 2025, when the shipyard unveiled its new generation of boats, consisting of the Oryx LX cross cabin cruisers and the open FX variant. On that occasion, three models—the 32FX, 37FX and 47LX—captured visitors’ attention, showcasing a more modern design, more livable spaces and significantly enhanced versatility.

It is from this path that the new Oryx 37LX was born, completing the family and best expressing its spirit: sporty like the entire range, yet offering superior comfort and extra protection from the elements. The enclosed layout allows to enjoy the boat in any season and in any condition—whether cruising under the midday sun or anchored at sunset—facing hot days or more variable weather without sacrificing the pleasure of navigation.

oryx photo

Designed to be a dynamic day boat, the Oryx 37LX is nonetheless comfortable enough to become an ideal weekender for family trips or short outings at sea. The deck spaces invite socializing, while the cabin impresses with its volume and brightness. Large glass surfaces—from the panoramic windshield to the hull windows and the skylight—flood both the main deck and the lower deck with natural light, creating an airy and welcoming atmosphere that goes well beyond what one would expect from a 37-footer.

Below deck, the 37LX combines practicality and comfort: the spaces include a dinette that, generously sized, can quickly transform into a comfortable sleeping area, and there is a second berth further aft, complete with an equipped galley, a bathroom with shower and numerous intelligently distributed storage compartments. The result is a compact but surprisingly livable cabin, ideal for accommodating up to four people overnight.

Every detail of the new Oryx 37LX has been carefully designed to deliver a warm, contemporary atmosphere. On request, the lower deck and cockpit flooring can be finished in high-quality synthetic teak, a solution that not only adds a touch of elegance but also ensures excellent grip, great wear resistance and worry-free maintenance.

Oryx 37LX Upper Deck

For the first time in its history, Aquila Catamarans will take part in boot Düsseldorf with a yacht on display. From January 17-25, 2026, inside Messe Düsseldorf, the shipyard will showcase the Aquila 42 Coupé, marking a strategic step in its expansion into the European market.

Aquila 42 Coupé, engineering innovation and Hydro Glide technology

Displaying the yacht indoors will allow visitors to get a close look at the Aquila Hydro Glide system, made of carbon fiber and installed as standard on the Aquila 42 Coupé. This semi-foiling solution reduces fuel consumption by up to 40% compared to a traditional monohull.

At a cruising speed of 30 knots, the yacht can reach an estimated range of about 545 nautical miles, with fuel consumption between 0.64 and 0.68 km/l (1.5–1.6 mpg). During in-water boat shows, the system is normally submerged. In Düsseldorf, however, it will be fully visible on the exhibition floor, allowing visitors to appreciate its design and technical solutions in detail.

The Aquila 42 Coupé is designed to combine the performance of a sporty boat with the usability of a cruiser. With a beam of 15 feet 11 inches (about 4.85 m), it offers particularly generous spaces for conviviality on board. The single-level layout connecting the salon and cockpit creates a seamless flow between areas, while the large side windows and electrically opening roof enhance natural light and the connection with the outdoors. Below deck, there are two independent cabins, each with its own private bathroom and separate shower, ideal for short cruises or weekend getaways in total comfort.

How a market-creating founder turns underused docks into safe, scalable guest experiences.

When Oleksii Popov walks a marina, he doesn’t start with boats – he starts with flow. Where do families hesitate? Where does a dock sit idle at sunset? Where could a short passenger loop depart on the hour and return with clockwork reliability? Popov’s specialty is converting those overlooked moments into first-of-its-kind formats that guests trust, teams can execute, and partners can scale.

Raised on the Azov coast, Popov built his reputation by standing up the region’s first professional kite and wind stations, a wake program with a youth academy, a licensed boat-loop service (“sea-tram”), open-air cinema, and even a mono-product bar that became a local fixture. The pattern was consistent: take a setting people love but underutilize, design the operating spine – safety, SOPs, training, and schedule discipline – and turn it into a service that performs not only on Saturdays but also on Tuesdays.

Today Oleksii Popov is based in Hawaiʻi and focused on U.S. urban and coastal markets. His goal is pragmatic: help marinas and waterfront hotels add reliable, insurance-grade experiences – hourly loops, instructor blocks, junior programs – without heavy capex. “Romance brings people to the water,” he says. “Standards bring them back.”

Oleksii Popov : “Why it matters now”

Coastal destinations are chasing weekday utilization, safer guest flow, and year-round relevance. Families want access without uncertainty; municipalities want compliance they can defend; operators want throughput that doesn’t feel like a rush. Popov’s work lands in the middle of that Venn diagram: visible safety as part of hospitality, training ladders that create local jobs, and playbooks that let quality travel from one harbor to the next.

Industry Contribution: An Operating System for the Waterfront

What Oleksii Popov brings to U.S. marinas isn’t just new programming – it’s a repeatable method for turning underused shorelines into reliable, safety-forward commerce. Internally he calls it the Popov Market Creation Method™, a five-move playbook marina teams can actually run:

  • Market-void recognition: find docks and promenades with footfall but no structured experience or weekday utilization.
  • Latent-demand forecasting: use wind/tide windows, traveler flows, and family behavior to model when and how guests will buy before demand is visible.
  • Concept engineering: design the product and its spine – SOPs, safety doctrine, training ladder, wayfinding, and slot/queue discipline – so staff can execute and guests instantly “get it.”
  • Ecosystem deployment: launch small, high-trust blocks (hourly sea-tram loops, instructor windows, youth academies) with visible safety to accelerate adoption.
  • Rapid scaling: document what works (routes, ratios, cut-offs, QA sheets) so quality travels between harbors without losing local character.

Applied across kite/wind stations, wake programs, licensed boat loops, and even mono-product hospitality, the result is consistent: romance brings people to the water; standards bring them back. Practically, that means higher weekday utilization, fewer incidents, stronger per-guest revenue – and an exportable operating system coastal partners can adopt quickly.

Proof in the field

Kite & wind stations. Oleksii Popov’s first stations replaced informal riding with a guest-safe, standards-led service: marked aquatory, radio lookout, posted cut-offs, and progressive skill blocks (orientation → body drag → waterstart → upwind) with instructor sign-offs. Families saw safety, not just sport; municipalities saw compliance, not just crowds.

Wakeboarding with a youth pathway. To smooth wind volatility he added wake programs: dock flow, helmet/impact-vest compliance, timed runs, and a coaching rubric that made progress measurable. The youth academy created a local talent ladder – coaches, operators, event staff – anchored by clear SOPs and a simple CRM for retention.

Licensed boat loops and charters. The “sea-tram” format ran on the hour with 45-minute scenic circuits and 15-minute dock resets. Private charters filled shoulder periods; weddings and ceremonies used a contingency script for wind shifts. Safety briefings were visible, manifests verified, and rescue drills practiced to time. As demand grew, the fleet doubled and the dock choreography scaled without chaos.

Open-air cinema as placemaking. A fast-deploy, asset-light venue extended evenings on the waterfront. Queue design, sound discipline, and weather playbooks kept neighbors happy while bundled F&B partnerships lifted average check. The lesson traveled back to marinas: programming cadence and guest flow are as important as the headline attraction.

The Oleksii Popov’s U.S. roadmap

In the United States, Oleksii Popov is piloting with partner marinas and waterfront hotels: short passenger loops at sunset, instructor blocks aligned to wind windows, junior academies, and shoulder-season programming that gives docks a second life. Each pilot ships with the documents operators ask for – safety doctrine, training curriculum, QA checklists, and a schedule model – so teams can own the product after the pilot ends. The approach keeps assets light, shifts risk into a manageable domain, and makes new revenue insurable and auditable.

What sets Oleksii Popov apart

Oleksii Popov blends concept vision with field discipline. He writes the SOPs, trains the staff, and runs the after-action reviews himself until the numbers hold: on-time departures, lesson completion rates, incident-free days, and repeat intent. He treats risk as a guest-visible feature, not back-office paperwork, and designs queue/slot systems that respect both throughput and the pace families need to feel safe.

That is why his projects tend to be first in their locality – and why they are quickly imitated. For coastal partners, imitation is a feature, not a bug: the standards are documented, the format is teachable, and the quality can travel without losing the local accent.

Looking ahead

Popov’s thesis is simple: underused waterfronts are an economic opportunity hiding in plain sight. With light assets, visible safety, and documented training, a marina can add products that perform on weekdays, create skill ladders for local talent, and extend the destination’s relevance beyond peak season. “People don’t buy access to water,” he says. “They buy confidence that the day will go well.”

For readers who build and run marinas, that confidence is a design problem. Oleksii Popov’s contribution is designing the operating system that solves it – and leaving behind a playbook others can run at scale.

From the creative mind of Mauro Corvisieri – founder and head designer of the Custom Boat shipyard, and one of the most innovative yacht designers on the current boating scene – comes a new creation that blends contemporary design, functionality, and innovation. We’re talking about the brand-new C-Tender 74 OPEN, a revolutionary yacht conceived to redefine the boating experience from the earliest design stages and destined to become a new benchmark in luxury yachting.

What began as a visionary intuition in 2020 with the Senses project has now become a real yacht that doesn’t simply represent a natural evolution of the original concept, but an authentic statement of style and freedom, aiming to offer a completely new way of experiencing the sea.

The C-Tender 74 OPEN was born with a clear goal: to offer the owner and guests 100% usability of all spaces, thanks to an open, functional, and radically contemporary architecture. Also available in the FLY version, the new model by Custom Yacht is built entirely in aluminum, a material that not only adds a touch of elegance but also allows for total customization, with no limits in terms of layout, style or configuration. This gives the fortunate owner the chance to bring to life a truly unique yacht, crafted around their real needs.

Naturally, great attention has also been given to performance. The C-Tender 74 can even be handled by a single person. In addition to IPS propulsion, it can be equipped with surface drives or a traditional shaft line, offering maximum freedom in technical configuration.

C-Tender 74 Open and AI: the new frontier of bespoke design

Designing a C-Tender 74 Open today means going beyond many traditional concepts tied to the creative process. If until not long ago customization relied on static renderings and conventional simulations, the integration of artificial intelligence now radically redefines this process, taking it to a surprisingly realistic level.

The tailor-made experience becomes more real, immersive and personal. Thanks to the AI technologies the shipyard is investing in, the owner can virtually step aboard his 74 Open before construction even begins: every hull line, every material, every aesthetic choice takes shape in an advanced digital environment, modeled around their preferences and capable of offering a faithful preview of the final result.

No more simple technical drawings or static images: with AI visualizations, the future owner will be able to walk through the open cockpit, assess deck usability, customize materials, configurations, furnishings and layouts, and discover every space, volume and play of light as if already on board.

With this approach, the shipyard collaborates with a network of designers and architects who work by integrating cutting-edge tools such as Unreal Engine and Unity 3D to recreate photorealistic immersive environments; BIM modeling and augmented reality to configure every detail with millimetric precision; interactive touch tables and digital showrooms that allow the project to be shared and modified in real time, anywhere in the world. In this way, the owner becomes an active part of the creative process: every choice is no longer just imagined or commissioned, but lived, tested and fully understood.

However, the digital experience does not replace craftsmanship. On the contrary, it enhances it, making every decision more informed, more personal and more exciting — right up to the launch, and beyond.

Adding further value to the project is the collaboration with Paolo Tamburini of Domus Yacht Design, a leading name in the contemporary yacht design scenario. Tamburini created the immersive videos dedicated to the C-Tender 74, using the potential of artificial intelligence to transform each concept into a true emotional journey inside the yacht.

With the C-Tender 74 OPEN, high-end yachting enters a new era — one in which design, technology and vision come together to create a more personal, freer and more advanced boating experience.
