How to wash a sailing jacket to keep it performing properly.

A sailing jacket is one of those garments that, on board, quickly stops being just clothing. It becomes a second skin, an indispensable ally when the wind picks up, the sea comes on deck, and the hours at the helm stretch far beyond what was planned. And precisely for this reason, its maintenance is often underestimated: it is taken for granted until, suddenly, it stops doing its job. Water no longer runs off, moisture stays trapped inside, zippers begin to stiffen, and the feeling of protection gives way to discomfort.

Washing a sailing jacket correctly is not a secondary task, but an integral part of its working life. Salt, sweat, oils, and environmental dirt act slowly but constantly on the fibers and technical membranes, compromising their performance. Knowing how to wash a sailing jacket, which products to use, and which precautions to take means extending its lifespan and making sure it continues to work when it really matters.

Why a sailing jacket needs to be washed

One of the most widespread beliefs among boaters and sailors is that a sailing jacket should be washed as little as possible to avoid damaging it. Actually, exactly the opposite is true. Salt water, once dry, leaves crystalline residues that settle on the surface and inside the fibers. Over time, these residues stiffen the fabric, hinder breathability, and compromise the material’s ability to repel water. This is why it is key to know how to wash a sailing jacket properly.

To this is added the effect of sweat, which is inevitable even in the coldest seasons. Body salts penetrate the inner layers of the garment and, if not removed, alter the behavior of the waterproof membrane. A dirty sailing jacket therefore breathes less effectively, manages internal moisture poorly, and gives a damp feeling even when there is no actual water ingress.

Washing a sailing jacket regularly is therefore a functional operation, not an aesthetic one. It is necessary to keep the entire system it is made of efficient, consisting of the outer fabric, the inner membrane, and the surface treatments.

The most common mistakes in sailing jacket maintenance

In most cases, people damage a sailing jacket without even realizing it. The first mistake is to consider it an “indestructible” garment and treat it like an old windbreaker. Harsh detergents, high-temperature washes, or the use of fabric softeners quickly compromise the performance of technical fabrics. In fact, the additives found in common laundry products tend to clog the pores of the waterproof membrane, making it less breathable and less effective over time.

Another common mistake is forced drying. Exposing a sailing jacket to direct heat sources such as radiators, heaters, or full sun accelerates material aging and can irreversibly deform some critical areas, especially taped seams and reinforced sections.

Improper storage also plays an important role. Putting away a sailing jacket that is still damp in a locker or a closed bag creates the ideal environment for mold, bad odors, and fabric degradation, especially on board where ventilation and temperature are not always easy to control.

How to wash a sailing jacket: preparation before washing

Before proceeding with the actual wash, it is essential to dedicate a few minutes to preparing the garment. All zippers should be closed, including those on the pockets and ventilation openings. This precaution prevents the teeth from damaging the fabric during machine washing or hand washing.

The adjustment straps, cuffs, and Velcro collars should be properly secured to avoid friction points. Removable hoods should also be left attached, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, so that the washing process is uniform across all parts of the garment.

A preliminary visual check also helps identify any oil or fuel stains that may require a gentle pre-treatment, always using products compatible with technical fabrics.

How to wash a sailing jacket in the washing machine without damaging it

Machine washing is now allowed for most modern sailing jackets, provided some specific rules are followed. The water temperature should remain low, generally around 30°, using a gentle cycle that limits spinning. Excessive agitation stresses the fibers and can compromise the internal taped seams.

The detergent is a key element: it must be specifically designed for waterproof and breathable technical clothing. Traditional soaps, as well as bleach and fabric softeners, should be avoided because they leave residues that alter the membrane’s performance. The dosage should also be moderate: a clean sailing jacket is one free of residues, not one soaked in fragrance.

A thorough rinse is just as important as the wash itself. Completely removing the detergent allows the jacket to regain part of its original breathability and prepares the fabric for any subsequent water-repellent treatment.

Hand washing as a safe alternative

When possible, hand washing is a particularly gentle option. Using lukewarm water and a suitable detergent, it is possible to work with greater control on areas prone to dirt, such as cuffs, collar, and shoulder regions.

It is important to avoid vigorous rubbing and twisting of the fabric. After washing, rinse thoroughly until the water is completely clear and free of foam. Even in this case, haste is the enemy of the sailing jacket: it is better to spend a few extra minutes than to compromise a garment designed to last for years.

How to wash a sailing jacket: proper drying and moisture management

A sailing jacket that has been washed correctly can be ruined in an instant by improper drying. The best method remains natural air drying, in a shaded and well-ventilated area. Hanging the jacket on a sturdy hanger, avoiding folds and overlaps, allows moisture to evaporate evenly.

It is important to ensure the garment is completely dry before storing it. Even minimal residual moisture can, over time, cause unpleasant odors and material deterioration, especially if the jacket is stored on board.

Restoring water repellency over time

With use and repeated washes, the surface water-repellent treatment gradually loses effectiveness. The sign is clear: water no longer beads on the surface but tends to “soak” into the fabric. In these cases, it is possible to restore water repellency using products specifically designed for this purpose, applied to a clean and dry garment.

These treatments do not replace the internal waterproof membrane, but they allow the outer fabric to perform correctly, promoting water runoff and also improving overall breathability.

Zippers, seals, and details: maintenance that makes a difference

A sailing jacket is not made of fabric alone. Zippers, seams, reinforcements, and adjustment systems are essential elements for its functionality. After washing and drying, paying attention to the zippers helps prevent oxidation and sticking. Light periodic lubrication keeps them smooth and extends the garment’s lifespan.

Collars, cuffs, and seals, especially on more technical jackets, deserve constant care. Keeping them clean and dry preserves their elasticity and effectiveness over time.

Off-season storage

When the sailing jacket is not used for extended periods, proper storage becomes crucial. Hanging it in a dry and ventilated area is always preferable to storing it in closed bags or lockers. Avoiding prolonged compression preserves the fabric’s structure and reduces the formation of permanent creases. A well-washed, dry, and properly stored sailing jacket is ready to go back into action without surprises on the first challenging outing.

At Metstrade 2025, one of the most important stages for innovation in the boating sector, Henri-Lloyd presented Ocean PRO, a new generation of technical offshore clothing designed to redefine the standards of protection in extreme sailing. The debut took place at stand 03.520/03.512 and was the result of a three-year development process carried out in collaboration with professional sailors taking part in ocean races such as the Vendée Globe and The Ocean Race. This new range will also be tested at our test center in Marina Porto Antico, Genoa, where we will carry out a dedicated endurance test to verify its performance in real conditions.

According to Knut Frostad, Executive Chairman of Henri-Lloyd, this project represents “a decisive step forward in offshore protection”. “The goal – he emphasizes – is not only to create a garment capable of withstanding the toughest conditions, but above all to allow sailors to perform at their best, for longer, in a sustainable and comfortable way”.

Survival-grade technology and performance

Selected for the 2025 Dame Award, the Ocean PRO range was designed to meet the needs of teams and athletes tackling ocean crossings in critical conditions. Its development is based on proprietary technology: the world’s first 4-layer hybrid stretch membrane, designed to provide survival-grade waterproofing (35K), high breathability (14K), and a 17% weight reduction compared to traditional offshore gear. This balance allows maximum protection from external elements while maintaining freedom of movement, an essential factor during extended sailing or racing.

The innovation also translates into operational efficiency: the mobility offered by the stretch fabrics, combined with reduced fatigue, makes these garments particularly suitable for physically and mentally demanding situations. Sea trials have demonstrated consistent performance even under stress, helping to minimize the impact of wear and prolonged strain.

Ocean PRO, functionality-oriented design

The Ocean PRO range includes offshore jackets for men and women, a unisex hybrid smock, and Hi-Fit bib trousers. Each garment has been designed with particular attention to movement and operational dynamics at sea. The jacket features the Optivision Hood system, a removable face mask, and photoluminescent details to ensure visibility even in low-light conditions. The windproof flap, designed not to restrict movement, is paired with a removable neoprene inner skirt, created to block wind and water in extreme situations.

The smock represents a paradigm shift: it is the first offshore model with a full front closure and removable collar, designed to offer the protection of a traditional foul-weather jacket with the practicality of a modern jacket. The Hi-Fit bib trousers use stretch Cordura reinforcements, EVA padding in impact areas, and an articulated structure to ensure comfort even during long periods at sea. The women’s version features lowered side pockets for easier use with a PFD and a drop-seat system with corrosion-resistant AquaGuard waterproof zips designed for high durability.

Ocean PRO, materials and sustainability

Ocean PRO continues the path set by the Dynamic Range collection, which received a Special Commendation at the 2024 Dame Award, taking freedom of movement to a higher level. The outer fabric is made from 100% recycled polyamide with a 20D tricot backing, combined with a microporous membrane and hydrophilic coating free from PFOA and PFC. The double DWR PFC-free C0 finish ensures water repellency even after prolonged exposure to salt, oils, and sweat. The use of bias-cut panels and articulated sections provides unrestricted freedom of movement. The absence of lining makes the garments lighter and quicker to dry while allowing full customization of layering. The materials also come from pre-consumer recycled processes, certified according to the GRS standard.

There is a common thread running through Gulf Craft’s history—one that, over time, has come to define its vision: growing by investing in people. This philosophy has allowed the Emirati shipyard not only to establish itself in yacht construction, but also to shape its corporate culture. It is within this context that the recent recognition at the 2025 Emirates Labour Market Awards arrives, where Gulf Craft won the prize in the Manufacturing category, standing out among nearly 1,800 companies evaluated across the country.

The ceremony took place on November 13 in Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This achievement speaks not only to production and industrial results, but also to the relationships, training, and attention devoted to human capital within the company.

Gulf Craft emirates

A working environment built over time

This is not a sudden milestone. Within the shipyard, people’s growth is considered an integral part of technical development. This was highlighted during the award acceptance speech by Yousuf Alshaali, Office Manager to the Chairman, who emphasized that what emerges “reflects the environment we build around our employees”. It’s not a theoretical concept, but a concrete approach that involves both management and operational staff in a continuous exchange between craftsmanship, technological development, and internal advancement. Training, cultural inclusion, working conditions, and the ability to innovate were among the key criteria considered by the Award’s jury — elements that, at Gulf Craft, are real investments in the company’s long-term continuity.

Gulf Craft

Gulf Craft, the value of people at the center

During internal briefings, Chairman Mohammed Hussein Alshaali often repeats a phrase: “Take care of your people, and your people will take care of you”. A vision that, despite its simplicity, has guided the company through more than four decades of activity.

This award seems to confirm it. It is not only a recognition of corporate practices, but of the consistency of an entire journey — the commitment to building an environment where craftsmanship, innovation, and responsibility meet, and where production capacity is born from a balance between technical expertise and people’s well-being.

Emirates Labour Market Awards 2025

Gulf Craft, a signal for the entire industry

Although linked to employment policies, the result has a broader significance. In the industrial landscape of the United Arab Emirates — increasingly aligned with international standards — Gulf Craft stands as an example of how technological evolution cannot be separated from organizational evolution. The award in the Manufacturing category thus becomes an indicator of transformation: it tells the story of a shipyard that continues to grow through its people, strengthening the connection between expertise, work, and long-term sustainable development.

The sea as inspiration, nature as language, and design as an expression of balance. This is the philosophy behind the Invictus TT460 Shell Edition, a new interpretation of the Calabrian shipyard’s flagship, ready to make its debut at boot Düsseldorf 2026.

Issued from the collaboration between Fabio Rotella and the Invictus Atelier, this special edition redefines the concept of elegance on board, introducing innovative materials, sustainable solutions, and a new harmony between aesthetics and functionality. The result is a boat that retains the charisma of the original TT460, designed by Christian Grande, while reimagining in a more intimate, natural, and contemporary key.

Visitors to boot Düsseldorf 2026 will have the opportunity to discover it first-hand from January 17 to 25, at Halle 5 – stand C20, where Invictus Yacht will present to the public a boat that, in every respect, represents the new face of its future.

Invictus TT460 Shell Edition, a design born from nature

Internationally renowned architect and designer Fabio Rotella makes his debut in the boating world with a project that combines experience, design culture, and artistic vision. Coming from a family that has made creativity a defining trait—his uncle is the famous artist Mimmo Rotella, a leading figure of Pop Art—Rotella brings to the Invictus world his idea of design as a way of life. “I consider the boat an intermediary for experiencing nature – he explains – Hence the name Shell Edition: like a seashell in the sea, it welcomes, protects, and wraps around”.

His approach rejects excess in favor of a return to essence: a boat that does not imitate a home, but becomes a living organism in constant dialogue with water, light, and wind. Within this balance, every detail takes on symbolic value. Natural materials, warm colors, and organic fabrics bring life to a coherent and sensorial narrative in which luxury is measured through the purity of the experience and environmental consciousness.

Invictus TT460 Shell Edition, innovative materials and sustainable vision

The Invictus TT460 Shell Edition stands out for its use of recycled and lightweight materials resulting from the extensive research carried out by the Invictus Atelier. In the below-deck area, an innovative system of lightweight structural honeycomb panels makes its debut, used for building the partition walls and interior furnishings. This material, new to the shipyard, is not only recycled but also unsinkable, and enables a 20% reduction in the boat’s overall weight, improving efficiency and environmental impact.

The result is a lighter, brighter, and more natural environment, finished with wood essences and tactile surfaces that convey warmth and authenticity. Precisely calibrated lighting further contributes to an atmosphere of widespread well-being, where technology and comfort coexist without taking over the scene. The color palette, inspired by elements of nature—sand, water, stone—strengthens the connection between the boat and its surrounding landscape, merging design and nature into a single sensory experience.

Invictus Atelier, a workshop of research and customization

Behind every detail of the Invictus TT460 Shell Edition lies the work of Invictus Atelier, the creative and experimental heart of the shipyard. Led by Paolo Avellone, the workshop represents the brand’s most flexible and innovative soul: a place where ideas take shape and the requests of the most demanding owners become concrete projects.

“Fabio Rotella’s creativity found proactive collaboration within our Atelier – Avellone explains – After a long period of research into new solutions and materials, it was possible to shape a version of the TT460 that meets market needs and an increasing environmental awareness”.

Within the Atelier coexist several identities, each with a specific role. The Style and Interior Design division handles the selection of materials, fine woods, and premium fabrics, while also introducing cutting-edge technologies such as the use of carbon fiber in the most distinctive elements. The Harmony and Atmosphere section instead focuses on the overall perception of spaces, studying color combinations and lighting solutions capable of creating environments that are understated, balanced, and emotionally engaging.

The External Customization division, a longstanding strength of Invictus, offers up to seventeen hull color options—metallic or classic, and also extendable to the interiors—paired with more than seventeen upholstery combinations. The Interior Customization division allows the below-deck spaces to be redesigned according to the owner’s needs, within structural limits, offering endless configuration possibilities to create truly unique environments. Finally, the Sustainability and Innovation division represents the most experimental soul of the workshop, dedicated to researching eco-friendly materials and low-impact technological solutions.

Rediscovering the authentic pleasure of navigation, facing the sea in all conditions without giving up the taste and refinement of Italian design. This is the vision behind MarcoPolo Adventure Yachts, a new brand ready to bring a breath of fresh air to the Italian boatbuilding scene. Led by the experience of Rosario Alcaro, the brand will make its official debut at boot Düsseldorf 2026, where it will present its first two models, MP10 and MP12, already under construction at the 3AF Shipyard in Villafranca Tirrena, just outside Messina, Sicily.

The project was born from the desire to rediscover the essence of navigation as an experience of freedom and exploration, far from the idea of a boat as a mere status symbol. MarcoPolo offers boats designed for traveling and for experiencing the sea in its truest form, always with the unmistakable mark of Italian aesthetic excellence, reinterpreted in a contemporary and functional way. “I am thrilled to embark on this new adventure with designer Roberto Delfanti and the 3AF Shipyard – says Rosario Alcaro – We have brought together solid expertise and young talents with the goal of creating an innovative and groundbreaking project. At a time when boating is increasingly leaning toward excessive luxury, we want to bring the pleasure of sailing and the passion for discovery back to the center, without forgetting the value of design and build quality”.

The technical soul of the project

The design of the new models brings the signature of Roberto Delfanti Design Lab, which oversaw the entire design process. The result is boats with a bold style, defined by a strong “military look” that conveys sturdiness, reliability, and a spirit of adventure. The choice to use exclusively outboard propulsion ensures high performance and great versatility, while the attention to materials and hull geometry confirms the technical DNA of the project.

“These are technical, highly organized boats, focused on onboard comfort and… dressed well – explains Roberto Delfanti – Our goal was to combine ease of use with attention to detail and the clean, essential lines of Italian design. We worked extensively on the hull and proportions to achieve a stable, safe boat capable of navigating even in demanding conditions”. The design process started with an in-depth study of the hull, developed in collaboration with the shipyard’s technical department. The goal was to define a sharply profiled stepped geometry, capable of optimizing performance and hydrodynamic efficiency. From there, the focus shifted to onboard livability: interior volumes comparable to those of larger boats, without compromising safety or the usability of outdoor spaces. That’s why they opted for a set of transforming features, like the widened foredeck and the drop-down bulwarks aft, which expand the walkable surface and make life at anchor much more enjoyable.

MarcoPolo Adventure Yachts, cutting-edge design and materials

A look at the MP10 and MP12 prototypes immediately reveals the brand’s stylistic identity. The reverse windshield, a signature element of the project, gives the exterior lines a dynamic presence and a strong personality, while the design maintains that warm, balanced elegance typical of Italian craftsmanship.

Construction is entrusted to 3AF Shipyard, a Sicilian boatyard known for its ability to combine industrial expertise with artisanal care. Here, material experimentation plays a key role: MarcoPolo introduces next-generation resins and composites, along with new wood and upholstery treatments never before used in the boating sector. This choice confirms the brand’s ambition to innovate at every level, from engineering to finishing. Italian design sensibility and engineering precision come together in a yacht concept that promises high performance, comfort, and safety, while also delivering a distinctive and recognizable character. Attention to detail translates into functional spaces designed for practical, intuitive use, making these boats ideal for dynamic navigation, both offshore and along the coast.

MP10

MarcoPolo Adventure Yachts, versatility for every sea

The MP10 and MP12 are designed to suit different types of owners and navigation conditions. They will be available in open or cruiser versions to meet the needs of those seeking a sporty, high-performance boat as well as those who prefer a more protected vessel suitable for medium-range cruising.

The hull, designed to withstand challenging sea and weather conditions, ensures a stable and dry ride—qualities that make these boats ideal for the Mediterranean as well as Northern European waters, lakes, or Atlantic coastlines. The stated goal is to create global boats, capable of interpreting adventure in a modern way, through a universal language that speaks of technology, style, and freedom.

The essence of carbon

The construction of the new ICE 80 Sport represents a perfect synthesis of the shipyard’s expertise in the use of composite materials. The hull and deck are entirely full carbon, built using one-step epoxy resin infusion with a closed-cell PVC core. The result is a rigid, lightweight and reliable structure designed to ensure maximum efficiency even in demanding conditions. The optimisation of hydrodynamic appendages and weight distribution has made it possible to keep the displacement to just over 31,800 kilograms, an exceptional figure for a 24-metre yacht that does not compromise on comfort or cruising equipment.

Power and Control: the Sail Plain

The design rigour is reflected in the sail plan, developed to deliver high performance on every point of sail. The high-modulus carbon mast and boom, along with the bowsprit and composite standing rigging, ensure lightness and rigidity. The carbon rudder blade and stock provide immediate and precise helm sensitivity, even when the boat is heeled or under heavy load. Generous proportions highlight the sporty soul of a yacht born for top-level racing.

ICE 80 Sport, customised personality and safety in every detail

renderingEvery ICE 80 Sport is unique. ICE Yachts offers full customisation, from the interior layout to the choice of woods and materials, allowing each owner to shape their ideal yacht. Safety remains a key principle of the project: every component, structure and system is designed to ensure reliability, ease of handling and long-lasting durability.

ICE 80 Sport, next-gen technical equipment

The onboard systems follow the same philosophy of efficiency and performance. The Cummins B4.5L 250HP engine provides thrust and reliability, supported by a Mase VS10.5 generator and a manoeuvring system composed of a Sleipner ERV300 bow thruster and an ERV210 stern thruster. Power is supplied by a Victron LFP 51.2/100 battery pack, ensuring autonomy and optimised energy management. All systems interact in an integrated way, guaranteeing quiet operation, ease of use and onboard comfort even during long passages.

Aquila Catamarans, world debut for the 36 Molokai

The new Aquila 36 Molokai made its world debut as a sport-fishing catamaran designed to offer the perfect balance of offshore performance, comfort and practicality. Measuring 11.63 meters in length with a beam of 3.59 meters, the Molokai 36 stands out for its double-stepped hull, its infused vinylester construction with carbon-fiber reinforcements, and a full carbon hardtop that ensures both rigidity and lightness.

The boat can be powered by twin 300 hp Mercury V8 engines, or by optional V10 versions with 400, 425 or 500 hp, unleashing the full potential of a sporty catamaran built to take on even the most demanding offshore runs. With a full-load displacement of about 8,800 kilos and 1,924 liters of fuel, it offers generous range, while the 508-gallon tanks allow for long days of fishing or cruising with no compromises.

Aquila 36 Molokai

The single-level deck provides seamless movement from bow to stern and excellent access to the water. At the stern, the central hatch with integrated dive ladder makes it easy to get in and out of the water, while the tuna door and bait-prep station underscore the boat’s sport-fishing DNA.

The enclosed cabin, accessed from the starboard side, offers a comfortable space for two people, featuring a double berth, toilet and sink. The area can be air-conditioned thanks to an optional package, making overnight stays on board possible.

Aquila Catamarans’ design philosophy shines through in the balance between sportiness and comfort. Jean Raas, CEO and Chief Product Officer of Aquila USA, explained: “The 36 Molokai represents our vision of what a modern fishing catamaran should be. We collaborated with Peart Yacht Design on the engineering, but the concept grew from listening to what anglers truly want: a boat that can handle the sea yet also adapt as a versatile platform for the family or as a yacht tender. The cabin with a dedicated toilet compartment is what clearly sets us apart in this segment”.

In the world of new-generation maxi RIBs, there is one shipyard that more than any other embodies the all-Italian ability to combine craftsmanship, innovation and performance: Mar.Co Marine. With the new Mar.Co E-Motion 44, the Muggiò-based company marks a turning point in its history, creating the largest and most technologically advanced model it has ever built. A boat that promises to redefine the concept of comfort at sea without giving up an authentically sporty soul.

We are in the heart of the Mediterranean and the conditions are far from simple: a long south-westerly swell, about one meter high, immediately provides the ideal context to test the hull of this 13.50-meter boat. At the stern, three Mercury Verado V12 engines deliver 600HP each. It’s time to discover, with the numbers in hand, how well this maxi RIB manages to combine power, efficiency and cruising comfort.

Mar.Co E-Motion 44 Sea Trial

As soon as we leave the harbor, we’re greeted by a long swell from the southwest, with waves ranging between one meter and one meter ten. It’s a challenging condition, but perfect for understanding what this hull is really made of. Even at idle speed, the E-Motion 44 shows impressive stability: rolling is almost imperceptible, pitching is smooth and controlled. The RIB remains neutral, doesn’t dig in, and never buries the bow, immediately conveying that sense of safety typical of the shipyard’s best designs.

Power comes from three Mercury V12 Verado engines delivering 600 horsepower each, for a total of 1,800 horsepower. Just a touch of the throttles is enough to feel the powerful push of the twelve cylinders: within seconds, the boat gets on plane without the slightest hesitation. The transition from displacement to planing is smooth, progressive, and free from the usual lag of oversized engines. Trim adjustments are minimal, thanks to the naturally balanced attitude, and the overall feeling is that of a sturdy, obedient boat that’s always under control.

Mar.Co 44 Emotion bow area

At 23 knots, with fuel consumption remaining around 7.1 liters at minimum, comfort is already remarkable. The long swell fails to unsettle the course, and the hull slices through the water with an effectiveness that translates into softness and total absence of vibrations. At 25 knots, the trim remains perfect and fuel consumption even drops to 6.2 liters per mile, a sign of impressive hydrodynamic efficiency. It’s the ideal cruising speed for fast, relaxed transfers, allowing long distances to be covered in total comfort.

Pushing further, the progression of the three V12s is exhilarating. The noise increases, but remains round and deep, a sound of controlled power that accompanies the acceleration. At 30 knots, fuel consumption rises to 6.8 liters per mile, yet the sensation is that this RIB could cruise for hours without tiring either the crew or the helmsman. The impact on the waves is always soft: the hull doesn’t slam or bounce, but glides with elegance, confirming the excellent quality of the hull design and weight distribution.

Then comes the time to open the throttles completely: throttles down, positive trim, and the Mar.Co E-Motion 44 literally takes off. 37, 40, 44, 48.3 knots. This is the top speed recorded during our test, in far-from-ideal conditions. Its behavior remains impeccable: no tendency to bury the bow, no loss of control, just the pure sensation of power managed with precision. Even when landing after the highest waves, the boat absorbs the impact with surprising softness.

sea trial

When maneuvering, the response is immediate. At 30 knots, just a few degrees of rudder are enough to set a sharp turn: the boat leans progressively, traces the arc smoothly, and always keeps its grip on the water. In a counter-turn, crossing your own wake, the behavior remains identical, with no jolts or impacts. This is a hull that communicates, that can be read and anticipated, and that offers fun even to those with a heavy hand.

When we slow down to around 20 knots, the large hard-top envelops us completely, providing an almost unreal level of comfort. It feels like being at a standstill, such is the stability underway. Even with waves on the bow, pitching remains limited, and fuel consumption stabilizes around 5 liters per mile, an excellent figure for a boat with this level of power and weight. It demonstrates that hydrodynamic efficiency and directional stability were absolute priorities during the design phase.

The Mar.Co E-Motion 44 in detail

At the stern, the three Mercury V12 engines integrate perfectly with the boat’s lines. The tone-on-tone styling enhances the sporty profile of this maxi RIB, while the large platform makes water operations simple and safe. The overall sensation is one of space, but also of order: every element has its function and its place.

Mar.Co Emotion 44 stern view

The folding side platforms are among the most spectacular features of the design. Electrically operated, they expand the maximum beam from 4.55 to 5.60 meters, transforming the cockpit into a terrace over the sea. This is a choice that radically changes the perception of space, turning the main deck into an area to enjoy at any moment of the day.

The heart of the deck is the central dinette, made of two opposing sofas and two electric tables that, with a simple command, can be lowered to form a large sunbed or raised to create an elegant dining area. The sliding sofa also allows for two forward-facing seats, a detail that shows the attention to ergonomics and versatility. Just ahead, the bar unit acts as a bridge between the living area and the helm station. It can be customized with refrigerators, freezers, or an induction cooktop, and integrates a control panel that manages all the onboard automatisms. It’s the embodiment of Mar.Co’s philosophy: functionality and luxury coexisting without compromise.

drone view

The helm station is a masterpiece of ergonomics. Spacious, rational, and complete, it includes two large 16-inch Garmin displays, two auxiliary screens, the Mercury JPO joystick, electronic throttles, the bow thruster controls, and the windlass controls. Everything is exactly where it should be, easy to reach, and visible even in full sunlight. The entire area is protected by a fiberglass hard-top with a glass windshield, equipped with electric wipers and a washer system—details worthy of a true boat, not just a RIB. Moving toward the bow, wide and safe side decks, well protected by the bulwarks, lead to a huge sunbed capable of accommodating four people. The reclining backrest turns the area into a double chaise longue, perfect for relaxing at anchor.

Below deck, the Mar.Co E-Motion 44 continues to impress. The forward master cabin is a large and bright space, featuring a central king-size double bed, wardrobes, and numerous storage compartments. Headroom is generous, and the atmosphere is that of a true luxury yacht. Aft, the VIP cabin offers two large single beds and overhead cabinets along the entire perimeter, ensuring space and comfort for guests as well. The bathroom, located amidships, includes a sink, electric toilet, and separate shower stall, all finished with tailor-level craftsmanship.

When evening falls, courtesy lights outline the cockpit’s shapes, the OceanLed underwater lights enhance the waterline, and the entire environment takes on a sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere. It is the perfect synthesis of what Mar.Co means by sporty elegance: a balance between power and style, between steering pleasure and onboard comfort.

For over a century, the doors of the world’s most beautiful ships and vessels have opened thanks to a name that has become synonymous with Italian excellence: F.lli Razeto & Casareto. Headquartered in Sori, in the heart of Liguria, the company continues to be an international benchmark in the design and production of accessories, locks, and handles for the marine industry—from superyachts to cruise ships and large liners. Ahead of METSTRADE 2025, which will take place in Amsterdam from November 18 to 20, Andrea and Giangi Razeto describe a company in full evolution, faithful to its roots yet projected toward new design and sustainability languages.

F.lli-Razeto-Casareto-handles

F.lli Razeto & Casareto, the evolution of luxury and customization as the hallmark of the present

“In the 1920s and 1930s – explains Andrea Razeto – luxury on board the great ocean liners was absolute: every environment, richly decorated, was signed by renowned architects. That kind of elegance gradually faded with the end of the liner era, but today we find its spirit again in ultra-luxury cruise ships and yachts, where customization has once again become crucial”.

A return, then, to the pursuit of beauty, but expressed through new languages and contemporary materials. “Today’s requests – Andrea adds – come directly from the owners, not from the shipyards. Those who buy a boat want to find on board the same quality and comfort they have in their homes or offices. It is this increasingly demanding and refined expectation that drives the evolution of yacht design”.

The dialogue between architects and shipyards has also intensified: “Today, owners bring their own architect, have them collaborate with the shipyard’s designers, and together they define every detail. It’s an approach that places the owner’s personality at the center and pushes us, as accessory manufacturers, to respond with increasingly custom-made solutions”.

Sustainability and research: a concrete approach

For F.lli Razeto & Casareto, sustainability is a well-established reality, not just a slogan. “We work with metals that are recyclable by definition – Andrea emphasizes – and for years we have eliminated hexavalent chrome–based galvanic treatments, replacing them with ecological solutions that offer the same corrosion resistance”.

The company is also completing its environmental and management certification process, with the goal of publishing its own sustainability report. “We follow the evolution of regulations, but our own mindset is also pushing us in that direction. When we collaborate with external partners – Andrea adds – we look for suppliers and materials that guarantee innovation and environmental respect”.

Andrea-and-Giangi-Razeto

Andrea and Giangi Razeto, two complementary souls

The company’s strength also lies in the balance between the two souls leading it. “Each of us – says Andrea – has followed his own inclination, thanks also to our father, who encouraged us toward the paths best suited to our talents. I deal with regulations and institutional relations, while Giangi brings creative flair and artistic vision”.

A balance that turns into synergy: Andrea’s industrial solidity and managerial vision combine with Giangi’s aesthetic and conceptual research, creating a laboratory of ideas where tradition and innovation coexist naturally.

The value of Made in Italy for F.lli Razeto & Casareto

Rooted in Sori, F.lli Razeto & Casareto continues to believe in the strength of its territory. “We are here because of tradition – Andrea says – but also because of identity. Most of our collaborators come from this area, and some are now the third generation. We train our staff internally, and growing together is important”.

On the meaning of Made in Italy, Andrea is clear: “Producing in Italy means keeping wealth here. If you relocate, you create wealth elsewhere. Made in Italy still carries enormous value, but it must be authentic, not just a marketing story”.

In that small Ligurian valley where foundries and workshops once thrived, the company is today one of the few industrial realities that remain—a symbol of a tradition that continues to renew itself over time.

design handles

Transformism, lightness, and iconicity: the three pillars of F.lli Razeto & Casareto’s present

Ahead of METSTRADE 2025, Giangi Razeto presents three key concepts guiding the company’s research: Transformism, Lightness, and Iconicity.

Transformism” is the dialogue between different worlds, as shown by one of the new products debuting in Amsterdam: a handle created in collaboration with a manufacturer of stocks for sporting firearms. “We used – Giangi explains – a multilayer laminate of FSC-certified Nordic birch from controlled-growth forests. I was struck by the way it is crafted, almost like a tattoo on wood. It’s a cross-contamination that reflects our desire to explore. Many of our innovations are born from contaminations with other production worlds. We like exploring different design languages and bringing new materials into our sector, as long as they have technical and sustainable coherence”.

Lightness”, on the other hand, finds expression in the collaboration with a French designer, Christophe, with whom Chrissy was created—a new handle designed for boats up to 20 meters, where space is limited and weight distribution is crucial. “We took inspiration – Giangi explains – from Italo Calvino’s American Lessons: lightness as purity of form and function. It is a handle that combines performance and stylistic clarity, conceived from the outset together with our locks and rosettes, not adapted afterward”.

Finally, “iconicity”, which for the company represents the ability to transform a technical object into a symbol. “This concept – Giangi says – was recognized by the German Design Council with the Iconic Award. It is an acknowledgment that celebrates our way of giving identity to objects, making them timeless”.

Chrissie

F.lli Razeto & Casareto, looking to the future

Looking ahead, F.lli Razeto & Casareto continues its path of expansion into new markets. “We are exploring Saudi Arabia – Andrea explains – where enormous resources are being invested in tourism and boating development. It’s an interesting market also because of the synergies with luxury construction, a field where our solutions naturally find applications”.

The company remains solid even in the face of fluctuations in the boating market. “We are seeing stabilization – Andrea notes – but not a decline. Larger yachts continue to receive significant orders, while the mid-range segment is the most sensitive. What concerns us more is the increasing weight of finance in the sector: too much speculative pressure can create risks, as history teaches”.

Balancing tradition, experimentation, and awareness, F.lli Razeto & Casareto thus reaffirms its role as an ambassador of Made in Italy worldwide, bringing to METSTRADE 2025 a vision that unites art, engineering, and responsibility.
