It’s hard not to be enchanted at the sight of the new Navetta 70 by Absolute Yachts. Large, elegant, and undeniably sophisticated, it immediately catches my eye as I spot it moored at the dock of Harbour Towne Marina in Dania Beach.

Even in a setting crowded with yachts, the Navetta 70 stands out effortlessly—no small feat in a world where, forgive me, many boats tend to look a bit alike.

With this new model, Absolute Yachts hits the accelerator on innovation, delivering a motor yacht that is completely new—both in terms of exterior styling and interior design.

The result is a yacht with a dynamic and intriguing appearance that remains tasteful, yet makes a strong impression.

But let’s take things step by step and see how this beauty performed at sea.

Navetta 70 Absolute Yachts running

Navetta 70 Sea Trial

Getting out of this tricky berth is no problem for the Navetta 70. From the flybridge, visibility is outstanding, and with the joystick and onboard cameras, maneuvering is a piece of cake. If it weren’t for her size—just over 21 meters in length and a beam of 5.63 meters—this yacht could practically be handled by a single person. But thanks to its layout, the IPS system, and advanced electronics, a well-coordinated couple can manage even the most complex maneuvers effortlessly.

Once out of the marina, we proceed slowly, cruising through the canals that lead us to open sea. At 10 knots, the Navetta 70 behaves exactly like a superyacht. At this speed, you can cover long distances—even at night—while enjoying life on board with a level of comfort well above average. Cruising like this also minimizes emissions: at 1,200 rpm, the two Volvo IPS engines consume only 68 liters per hour, which is less than 7 liters per nautical mile!

The Navetta 70 transitions from displacement to planing speed at around 13 knots—a shift so smooth you barely notice it. The trim remains unchanged, and the silence on board continues to reign supreme.

If you’re in a hurry and need to cover a lot of miles quickly, cruising at 18 to 20 knots is no issue. At this speed, the engines are at peak torque, yet fuel consumption remains low at just 13 liters per mile—which is impressively efficient for a boat of this size.

When I push the throttle, the Navetta 70 surprises me once again. Of course, this isn’t a sports boat, and there’s really no need to go that fast—but seeing the GPS hit over 27 knots is undeniably satisfying. It’s also a clear testament to the well-designed, hydrodynamically efficient hull that glides through the water with minimal resistance.

Design and functionality

Navetta 70 is the forerunner of a brand-new line of boats where style and design are taken to their highest expression by Absolute Yachts—and it only takes one look to realize it.

The side profile, artfully enlivened by large dark windows, gracefully drawn curves on the hull, and those beautiful open side decks, is strikingly sleek and elegant. And yet, despite this lightness of form, the Navetta 70 offers volumes and living spaces that are significantly above the market average.

Looking at the yacht from the stern, it’s impossible not to be captivated by the sight of the two-tiered terraces of the aft dinette and the flybridge. Both feature barely-there glass railings that visually dissolve the yacht’s boundaries and elegantly lighten its considerable bulk.

We reach the aft dinette by climbing a few steps from the beach club up to the main deck. Here, we’re welcomed by an elegant bar unit that serves the entire area. Three armchairs on each side offer seating for six with a truly privileged view of the sea.

Stepping inside, we’re greeted by a sophisticated and elegant interior design where modern circular motifs create an environment that’s unmistakably stylish, luxurious, and distinctive. Rounded-corner furniture, thoughtfully chosen décor, and recessed ceiling lights all contribute to the refined atmosphere—nothing is left to chance in this magnificent living space. Particularly noteworthy are the vertical grooves in the cabinetry and the slatted finish on the forward wall—details that both highlight the quality craftsmanship and lend an airy feel to the larger surfaces.

Moving forward, we reach the raised and impressively spacious interior helm station, equipped with two helm chairs and large display screens. The centrally positioned helm ensures excellent visibility both forward and to the sides.

The master cabin is located forward on a level entirely dedicated to the owner. Accessed directly from the main deck via a few steps, it opens into what feels like a private apartment, stretching across the full beam of the yacht. The centrally positioned king-size bed enjoys a privileged view through the large windows on either side of the suite. Wardrobes, nightstands, and elegant wall paneling complete the space, offering an area that rivals the comfort and volume typically found on a 30-meter superyacht.

The en suite bathroom is situated at the very bow—and it’s enormous. Upon entering, you’re immediately struck by the beautifully crafted vanity with twin sinks set into a marble countertop. To the left, there’s a spacious double shower clad in white marble, and to the right, a second low cabinet provides ample storage for keeping the bathroom perfectly organized.

On the lower deck, there are three additional cabins: a second master that’s almost on par with the first in terms of comfort, and two VIP cabins with single beds that can be electrically converted into doubles if needed.

A fifth cabin, reserved for the crew, is located aft with private access from the beach club. It features two generous single beds, a dedicated bathroom, and direct access to the engine room. This area also accommodates the washing machines and dryers—an essential amenity for life on board.

Navetta 70 – Flybridge

The flybridge of the Navetta 70 deserves a chapter of its own. With such a wide surface area, it essentially serves as a third living deck, adding an extraordinary amount of space to this yacht. Upon stepping up, you’re welcomed by a bar unit and an L-shaped galley on the port side, perfectly positioned to serve the large eight-person dining table and the expansive aft sunbathing area.

A large T-top shelters this space, equipped with integrated lighting and capable of supporting a significant number of solar panels. Especially when at anchor, this allows you to shut off both the engines and the generator, enjoying the silence and the gentle sound of the sea.

At the front, the centrally placed helm station is flanked by two large sofas, letting guests comfortably join the captain and take in the navigation experience. The visibility from here is, of course, exceptional—with an unobstructed view in all directions around the yacht.

Aft, the Navetta 70’s sunbathing area is outfitted with high-quality loungers, armchairs, and low tables, all of which can be repositioned at will. This flexibility allows the entire area to be reconfigured depending on the occasion or mood.

Navetta 70 – Bow

The bow of the Navetta 70 serves as yet another spacious social area.

Here, a large U-shaped sofa wraps around an expandable table, providing a comfortable setting for 6 to 8 people to enjoy outdoor dining in complete privacy while moored, or to relax in the cool sea breeze when at anchor.

At the center of the bow is a generous sunpad for up to four people, and just forward of that is the anchor windlass, which is equipped with mooring winches to assist with docking maneuvers.

This entire area can also be elegantly shaded using carbon fiber poles and fitted sun awnings.

A new Ocean Alexander yacht is about to sail the world’s seas. The Taiwanese shipyard, known for its production of luxurious and high-performance vessels, has just completed the sale of a stunning 32-meter Ocean Alexander Legend 32L. For the owner, who reached out to Dan Aultman of MarineMax Yachts, this is the first yacht from this brand. Previously, he owned an 80-foot yacht, but he fell in love with the 32L and didn’t hesitate to make the purchase.

ocean-alexander-legend-32l-underway

The moment the owner stepped on board the Ocean Alexander Legend 32L, the build quality, exceptional value, and how seamlessly the yacht would live on the water for his family became undeniable – shared Aultman – The 32L’s thoughtful design and attention to detail truly resonated with what he envisioned for his next step in yachting. He was particularly impressed by the volume of comfortable space, the yacht’s extensive list of world-class amenities, and its intelligent layout”.

Among the standout features of the Ocean Alexander Legend 32L is the thoughtful separation between guest and crew spaces, ensuring privacy while maintaining efficient yacht operation. In particular, the crew quarters provide comfortable, private spaces for the crew to work and live without intruding on guest areas, as typical for superyachts. This has become an increasingly essential feature for owners, which is why they choose yachts from the Taiwanese shipyard.

But the strengths of the Ocean Alexander Legend 32L go even beyond. Another highlight is the luxurious on-deck master suite, featuring panoramic vertical windows that offer uninterrupted ocean views. The guest cabins also impressive with their generous layouts, private ensuites, and thoughtful details like ample storage for luggage and a guest refrigerator conveniently located in the lower companionway.

As for the bridge deck, it stands out for its innovative design. The enclosed skylounge and the open aft deck offer a versatile space, ideal for both entertainment and relaxation, serving as a comfortable living area from which to enjoy the sea through the large windows.

What makes this sale particularly noteworthy is the owner’s relatively short time in yachting—only 18 months. “A short period, but one filled with positive experiences for our client – observes Altman – which led him to choose to upgrade to a higher-level yacht, larger and more spacious, like the Ocean Alexander Legend 32L. We are confident that aboard his new yacht, he will be able to explore the sea with greater comfort while enjoying its meticulous and luxurious design”.

The debut of the new Ocean Alexander 28L .

Ocean Alexander has unveiled its latest masterpiece: the 28 Meter Legend. This vessel falls into a more compact category compared to their latest gem, the 35 Puro, but it encompasses the same luxury and comfort, both in the interior and exterior spaces.
With elegant lines, top-quality materials, and a meticulous attention to detail, the Ocean Alexander 28L demonstrates how this shipyard is increasingly recognized as an example of elegance at sea.

Ocean Alexander 28L in Taiwan

From the very first glance, what stands out on board the Ocean Alexander 28L is the intelligent use of space. Every corner is designed to ensure maximum livability without sacrificing style or functionality. The living area and dining zone blend harmoniously, offering an open, bright, and welcoming atmosphere.

The flybridge is also designed for relaxation and enjoyment, with perfectly organized areas to fully appreciate the outdoor lifestyle. The feeling on board is that of an exquisite space, almost a fusion between the yacht and the surrounding nature, defined by a perfect combination of luxury and the essential and pleasure.

main deck

The cabins of the Ocean Alexander 28L are not only elegant but also incredibly functional. Each cabin offers ample space, enhanced by very spacious wardrobes that allow for comfortable storage of personal belongings. The interior design, featuring fine furnishings and materials, creates a sophisticated and relaxing environment where every detail is crafted to provide maximum comfort.

The renewed collaboration with Poltrona Frau, the iconic Italian brand in the world of luxury furniture, is evident. The interiors of the Ocean Alexander 28L pay homage to refinement, using materials such as leather, wood, and exquisite fabrics that add warmth and personality to the spaces. This partnership has enabled Ocean Alexander to reach new standards of luxury, offering an unparalleled aesthetic and sensory experience. The seating, upholstery, and every piece of furniture make the Ocean Alexander 28L a yacht for true connoisseurs of good taste in the open sea.

Cabin

With the 28 Meter Legend, Ocean Alexander has demonstrated that luxury does not depend on size. It is the perfect combination of style and substance, establishing a new standard for yachts under 100 meters: the same level of quality and refinement, but paired with a spatial organization that enhances every corner of the vessel. The build quality and attention to detail are evident everywhere, confirming Ocean Alexander’s commitment to constantly improving the onboard experience.

The brand-new Grand Soleil 65 LC is one of the most anticipated sailing yachts of the year. Anticipated not only because it carries the name of a profoundly important shipyard, but also because this vessel is the result of the work of an immensely talented team, led by a sailing giant: Franco Corazza.

The project was clear: to create a maxi-yacht capable of offering great volumes and excellent performance, a mission that Matteo Polli, Nauta Design, and Marco Lostuzzi, as you will read in the following lines, successfully completed, achieving a true masterpiece.

Grand-Soleil-65-LC-gennaker

Grand Soleil 65 LC Sea Trial

It’s not a promising day that greets us in Palma de Mallorca: it’s raining, the sky is dark, and a very light breeze blows, making it feel more like in Milan than Palma… I resign myself and put on my raincoat while, one by one, colleagues from other magazines also arrive.

The cockpit of the Grand Soleil 65 LC is simply huge. The almost six meters of beam are all visible, and besides comfortably accommodating the 12 people on board today, they give this sailing boat an appearance that manages to be both powerful and elegant at the same time.

Grand-Soleil-65-LC-5

The boat is in “heavy cruising” setup today. In addition to the multitude of people on board, we must also add a full fuel tank, the water tank at 80%, the rigid-hull tender, the outboard motor, and a heavy galley. In short, we have four extra tons on board, so we will test the boat as it will actually sail during its summer cruises.

We cast off the moorings, in the rain, and leave the harbor under motor power. The Grand Soleil 65 LC has a cruising speed of over 9 knots, which it reaches at 2,200 RPM, consuming only 14 liters of fuel per hour. These are impressive numbers for a vessel of nearly 22 meters, which, in addition to having very low emissions, also allows for great engine range.

While it’s still raining, with only 5/6 knots of true wind, we hoist the mainsail, unfurl the genoa, and switch off the engine. The Grand Soleil 65 LC tilts slightly and, regardless of its weight and the very weak wind, sets off. It glides on the water with great lightness while, quite rapidly, it builds its apparent wind and accelerates without ever stopping. Close-hauled, we consistently sail above the true wind speed, reaching around 30 degrees apparent, hitting a peak speed of 7.5 knots with only 6 knots of true wind!

Grand-Soleil-65-LC-aerial-view

Unexpected performance for a cruising sailboat. I look aft and sense the reason—the wake of the Grand Soleil 65 LC is clean, and the wetted surface, at this slight heel angle, is truly reduced. This hull produces no resistance; drag is really kept to a minimum.

As we sail away from Palma and reach a sunlit portion of the sea, we find a couple of extra knots of true wind, which the boat immediately picks up and converts into speed. The heel increases, and again with only 8/9 knots true wind, the Grand Soleil 65 LC manages to surprise me, consistently sailing above 9 knots close-hauled, with peaks nearing 10.

This sailboat glides on the water with impressive ease, reaching speeds between 9 and 10 knots. The waterline length increases, and the boat rests on a sort of hull curve, which enhances stability by increasing the righting moment. Consequently, even at these speeds, sailing is always done with a modest heel angle and great comfort, the ideal recipe for covering many miles with little effort.

At the helm, you feel everything; small, measured movements allow you to keep the Grand Soleil 65 LC on course without losing speed. Steering this sailboat is a great pleasure.

Grand-Soleil-65-LC-sailing

We tack to head back, and given the speed, we send the gennaker ashore, which, equipped with a furler, is managed very easily. Once again, the boat accelerates, and in no time, at 90 degrees to the apparent wind, we’re back at 10 knots.

Luca-DAmbrosioWhat’s still astonishing is the simplicity of handling; the rudder blade is deep and instills great tranquility.

I deliberately try to exaggerate the corrections, and instantly and proportionally, the bow follows the command, adjusting the course, disregarding the pressure exerted by the gennaker and the slightly too tight mainsail. If we were in a car, I’d say the steering is precise and direct, like that of a grand tourer.

The true wind increases a bit more, blowing at about10/11 knots. I tighten up to 60/70 degrees to the apparent wind, and the Grand Soleil 65 LC kicks into a higher gear, consistently sailing above 11 knots. Then, thanks to a gust, we touch nearly 12 knots, while this marvelous sailboat sails in an almost calm sea, just dotted with the first hints of whitecaps from the wind.

What a boat, folks, what a boat…

The interior of the new Grand Soleil 65 LC

After reluctantly handing over the helm, I descend below deck while my colleagues continue to seek new speed records. Silence reigns in the dinette, not a creak or a groan; the craftsmanship of this boat, which has already sailed several thousand miles, is nearly perfect, an undeniable sign of the shipyard’s great attention to the production process.

The layout of the Grand Soleil 65 LC is slightly different from the Performance version. The saloon is raised compared to the cabins, offering a 270-degree view towards the outside. The galley is located amidships, a solution that, together with the living area, creates a single, spacious open space.

The two aft cabins are very spacious, with ample standing room and dedicated facilities with separate shower cubicles. The Master Cabin is a true apartment, dedicated to the owner. Featuring a hallway and ensuite facilities, this cabin boasts a king-size central bed, accessible from both sides.

The common denominator of the interiors is the maximum utilization of space. Nauta Design has done an excellent job, both in terms of dimensions and ergonomics, giving the impression of being on a boat of much larger proportions.

The woods, leathers, and finishes are all top-notch, even where one might not expect it. The craftsmanship of the new Grand Soleil 65 LC firmly places this sailing yacht in the high/ultra-high-end segment of the market.

Exteriors and Sail Plan

It is Nauta Design that has masterfully drawn the lines of this Grand Soleil 65 LC where both the side view and the deck are sublimely beautiful. The semi-raised saloon, the element that characterizes this boat, on one hand gives it a decidedly luxurious and streamlined appearance, while on the other hand outlines the contours of the cockpit seats, raising their backrests and making them very comfortable. This is the relaxation area, a versatile zone where one can sit, dine under a shade cloth, lounge for sunbathing, or simply relax, using the two chaise longues placed on either side of the descent to the lower deck.

Aft, we find the area dedicated to navigation where, from the two columns of the two wheels, all maneuvers can be electrically managed. An ideal configuration for sailing with a reduced crew and for comfortable cruising, especially considering the position of all winches which are easily accessible from here.

From stern to bow, there’s no change in level, walking on the very wide side-decks that, even in the most complicated situations, remain decidedly safe. The open-type pulpit and the adequately sized bowsprit also allow less agile individuals to set up a gennaker without risks or contortions, making it a boat truly designed to enjoy sailing without needing to engage a professional crew.

The sail plan is important but manageable, adequately divided between the large mainsail and a true genoa which, depending on the needs, can also be replaced by a self-tacking jib that, when set, allows a single person to manage the entire sailing navigation.

Ocean Alexander 35 Puro

The 35 Puro does not draw stylized cues from yachts that find a niche in geographical markets; she is simply the embodiment of what yachting is”, explains Giorgio M. Cassetta.

At the debut of the Ocean Alexander 35 Puro at the Palm Beach International Boat Show 2024, the design by the renowned architect Giorgio Cassetta and the luxury furnishings by La Poltrona Frau reveal a blend of cultures under the name PURO, aiming not to conform to global market trends but to embody pure craftsmanship.

In this bold venture, Ocean Alexander blends American taste with European design, both in external aesthetics and interiors, presenting a superyacht with fluid lines, featuring an elegant bow and a stern platform with breath-taking panoramic views.

Ocean-Alexander-35P-exteriors

Giorgio Cassetta, in collaboration with Andrea Agresta of NavalHead, approaches the body of the Ocean Alexander 35 Puro with an almost obsessive attention to proportions, details, and volumes. The same external stairs for moving from one deck to another of the yacht are perfectly aligned, as is all the flooring, from the outdoor spaces to the interiors and between the different rooms. The only access with steps inward is present in the Beach Club area, elegant and spacious, designed for a situation of extreme comfort but in contact with the water. Pure luxury yachting personified in the Ocean Alexander 35P
The 113-foot yacht will be presented at the International Boat Show in Palm Beach.

Ocean Alexander has announced the launch of its Puro Series, featuring the debut of the 35P model at the upcoming 2024 Palm Beach International Boat Show. Designed in collaboration with renowned Italian designer Giorgio M. Cassetta, based in Rome, famed for yachts including the 107-metre Luminosity and the 63-metre Metis by Benetti, and naval architect Andrea Agrusta whose many designs include the Maori Yacht 125, the 35P is a fine expression of luxury yachting grounded in Ocean Alexander‘s traditions of craftsmanship and seaworthiness. The shipyard, based in Taiwan, in fact has a reputation for reliable ocean-going vessels capable of dealing with heavy weather.

We are excited to unveil the 35P to the world at Palm Beach,” said Dan Mundy, Head of Global Operations at Ocean Alexander. “The 35P embodies our dedication to pushing the boundaries of luxury and innovation, offering an unmatched yachting experience.” The three-deck yacht is built in GRP, and one of its distinctive features is the long 11-metre upper deck which provides shade for the main stern cockpit. This deck incorporates the wheelhouse and the lounge, with privacy offered by glazing that can be blacked out if required.

The ample space on board includes the stern beach club, that is offering 18.5 square metres.

Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Design keeps evolving to be even more versatile and comfortable.

While at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, our first look at the newly refreshed Ocean Alexander 32 Legend revealed many changes that make it better than ever. This superyacht began its evolutionary journey in 2014 as the 100′, and after building 19 of them, Ocean Alexander switched its model names to a metric nomenclature in 2020 and has since grown to 106 feet, 6 inches with a 23-foot beam. In 2021, it lost its flagship status when the 37L was introduced and is probably the 32L’s biggest competitor. The yacht we boarded in Lauderdale was hull number nine, and this most recent update borrows a few readily noticeable features from the 37L, like its vertical owner’s suite windows. But rather than being just a smaller version, the 32L retains its own identity.

Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Plenty of Room Out Back

The Ocean Alexander 32 Legend creates some first-impression wow factor with its hydraulic, teak swim platform that dwarfs many found on yachts in its class. Large enough to accommodate a tender on chocks, it also functions as a submersible lounge area where guests are one with the water, making it easy to take a quick dip, stage a snorkeling run, or watch the sunset with your feet in the water.
Heading up one of the two matching stern staircases to the main deck takes you to the raised aft seating area, which features twin tables for ease of movement and makes a great al fresco dining area. Moving into the salon via the electric push-button glass door reveals a light and airy space thanks to the deck-to-ceiling glass and Novus Mist color palette that features light gray oak cabinetry and natural oak sole. The commitment to having only the best is evidenced by the contemporary furniture in the salon’s L-shaped seating group, designed by Ocean Alexander but built by Italian craftsmen at Poltrona Frau, which also has showrooms in Hollywood, Milan, Paris, and London. For those who prefer darker oak cabinetry, OA offers Novus Dusk.

Open Galley is Functional and Social

Often, galleys are isolated from those dining, but one of the recent changes is the addition of a pair of artfully hidden sliding doors that can be opened up to allow social interaction with the chef or to present food to diners. Inside the galley, you’ll find top-name appliances like the Wolf range and cooktop, Viking microwave, and full-size Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, along with plenty of food prep area, giving the chef an environment conducive to overachievement. There’s even a portside watertight entryway so the crew can provision the galley without interrupting guests. There’s room for ten diners, and the view is excellent thanks to the cutouts in the combing. Twin sliding glass doors on either side can open and be locked in place to take advantage of temperate cross breezes.

The Owner’s Cabin Choice

On the Ocean Alexander 32 Legend, the owner’s cabin is positioned toward the bow on the main deck, and this year, vertical forward windows replace the slanted ones on previous versions and offers a stunning 270-degree view. Our evaluation model featured the split-level master, which I prefer, even though accessing the head compartment requires heading down a flight of stairs. But there’s also a night head on the main level that doesn’t require navigating steps during nocturnal excursions. There is a one-level master option, but the head compartment is smaller, and instead of a large walk-in closet, it has four smaller ones. But, the one-level design does give owners the option of a bow seating group or the same sun pad as the split-level option and gives owners more bureau storage and a pop-up TV.
Stepping down into the split-level master head compartment reveals a roomy space with heated floors for comfort. The shower has rainfall fixtures, and the head is segregated for privacy. A giant walk-in closet has lighted jewelry drawers and plenty of room for dressing for the evening.

Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Lower Deck Accommodations

Moving to the lower deck, matching VIP berths are positioned amidships with walkaround queen beds and ensuite head compartments. The fourth guest cabin features a clever and versatile berth arrangement that allows guests to push the twin beds together with a nightstand on the end or separate them, with a table in the middle. The fifth cabin on hull nine was ideally configured as a kid’s quarters and featured a flip-down upper bunk bed and plenty of play space. Or owners could use the open floor for exercise equipment or add a desk to turn it into a workspace.

VIP Cabin

The Bridge Deck is a Great Place to Lounge

Owners can now choose a crane option on the bridge deck that also moves the hot tub farther forward to create more open lounging space. Without the crane, the hot tub can be positioned aft and surrounded by a padded lounge. A wet bar with stools on the starboard side is just abaft of the hot tub on the starboard side, and to port is a U-shaped lounge with a high-low convertible table. Inside the enclosed bridge is a lounge area to port, across from the flip-down 32-inch TV. The captain’s command center features three Garmin 32-inch screens to monitor all ship systems. At the marina, they can move to an outside docking station to see dock clearances without relying on others or a camera.

Even the Crew Gets the First-Class Treatment

Because many Ocean Alexander owners consider the crew part of the family, crew quarters have the same level of fit and finish as above deck. The captain’s quarters feature an ensuite head compartment and shower. Twin berths in the two remaining cabins allow for four more crew members to be comfortably situated. In the crew lounge is a 43-inch TV that’s integrated with the ship’s Optiplex system, allowing all onboard systems to be monitored at a glance. The crew or owners can also keep apprised of the yacht’s systems via smartphone. In addition to a washer/dryer, there’s a small workshop for the engineer and a dining area with an abbreviated galley.

Crew quarters

Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Performance is First-Rate

Walking into the air-conditioned engine room, it’s apparent designers prioritized easy access to all the mechanical systems, with walkaround space surrounding the twin Mann 1900 V-12 diesels, which push the 32L to a top speed of 23 knots, according to Ocean Alexander sources. Twin Kohler 40kW generators and a pair of water makers add redundancy and extra capacity. The Side-Power Vector Fin system handles stabilization.

The Ocean Alexander 32 Legend gives owners the perfect yacht, whether used as a second home or for charters.

Her name is MAVI’ and is the fourth stunning ICE 70 to hit the water. She is part of a highly successful series, which has already seen the birth of unique boats such as the ICE 70 RS, with a clear racing attitude, and the ICE 70 Gran Comfort, which stands out for her on-board comfort and technology.

These are sophisticated, high-performance boats that, while starting from the lines designed by the always excellent Umberto Felci, are then developed in a practically custom mode, by a project team made up of Felci Yacht Design and the shipyard that, literally, design variants based on the owner’s needs. With this building mode, Ice Yachts has won the trust of many customers, suffice it to say that as we are writing, two more ICE 70s are under construction.

About the new ICE 70 MAVI’

No exception to the above-mentioned concept is the ICE 70 MAVI’ whose lucky owner, evidently experienced and very clear-minded, was able to draw heavily from the yard’s availability to create a boat that is decidedly different from the ones in the same series. Indeed, it is enough to look at her to immediately notice that the hull, lacking the low windows and painted in Snow White, gives the eye clean and very elegant lines.

But this is just one of the many innovations introduced by this sailboat whose very special interiors give space to two large guest cabins in the stern, an amidship owner’s cabin equipped with a private head with tempered glass shower and two crew cabins in the bow.

ICE-70-Mavi-DINETTE

All rooms are air conditioned with a 50,000 BTU Webasto air conditioning system capable of handling even the hottest climates, while in winter a diesel heating system, perfectly heats the rooms without drawing from the battery pack.

The galley is equipped with custom-made stainless steel nautical refrigerators, a combined oven with microwave, induction hobs, and a garbage grinder. A wine cellar has also been installed in the dinette to give the wine connoisseur owner the opportunity to store his bottles at the correct temperature.

The boat is equipped with two watermakers that can be used individually or synchronously to produce up to 1601t/hour of fresh water, which is also sterilized and made potable by a specific plant.

On-board electronics are entrusted to Raymarine and include state-of-the-art plotters installed on the two consoles, cockpit table and rails for complete control of all navigation data, in any position. In the dinette, a huge 24-inch plotter performs the advanced control functions of on-board automation, which can also be managed by the captain, from his cabin, thanks to a dedicated plotter.

ICE-70-master-cabin

The hull is made of epoxy resin infusion using hybrid glass and carbon fibers, while the deck is full carbon. This choice denotes a great experience of the owner who, evidently, preferred a light and solid construction, without the extremisms sometimes found on this type of boats and that cause multiple soundproofing problems.

Power comes from a generous Yanmar 230HP engine that enables the ICE 70 MAVI’ to travel at a double-digit cruising speed.

The keel is retractable and draws on the best in the sector, namely Cariboni, to reduce the draft from the 4.5 meters that allow for great upwinds, to the 2.75 meters that allow for entry into virtually any harbor or anchorage where the water is clearest.

In short, another great boat that ICE YACHTS gives to a market that, conversely, seems to have forgotten the importance of quality.

The only thing wrong with this boat? We haven’t been able to test it yet! If you want to understand why we are upset, just read the sea trials of previous ICE 70s: pure enjoyment …

Absolute FLY: sharp and spacious to take the States by storm.

Sometimes a boat’s name says it all, but Absolute Yachts went a step further forging its complete “new generation” flybridge line to speak directly to the Absolute FLY name. What do I mean? Well, using the urban lexicon as a comparison may sound a little out of character, but as if waving a magic wand – traits of the trawler-esque tour de force tick the same boxes affixed to the hip FLY label.

What’s more, the trio of modern mannerisms numbered below wholeheartedly resonate with the American boater, which, as we continue our series on how Absolute Yachts has taken the States by storm, lead us to this story’s focus: How the FLY found such fame with its USA customer base in such as short time… considering the new round of protagonists starting with the 60 FLY was just last year ushered in, before gushing continued at the Cannes Yachting Festival world premiere of the 56 FLY in September and the recent 2023 Miami International Boat Show global reveal of the 52 FLY.

1- In terms of motion and propulsion, with twin Volvo Penta diesels, the Absolutes fly. Check!
2- Functional and fashionable high-quality designs are described as fly. Check!
3- When referring to something that’s stylish and smartly thought-out, we call it fly. Check!

1 – Absolute FLY: Motion and Propulsion

Addressing the first aforementioned parallelism, Americans not only value free speech, they embrace freedom in every sense of the word – which in motoryacht terminology means motion and propulsion. The Absolute portfolio is propelled by Volvo Pentas thanks to a longstanding collaboration between the two flagships, and of course, to get the full effect of the potency, on board is the preferred place to be. Nevertheless, admiring the charismatic Italian-made crafts sailing toward the horizon from afar provides a different standpoint… one that really lets you visually appreciate the motion from the magnitude of horsepower produced from the pod-drive powertrain.

In the case of the 56 FLY (website test data sourced from sea trials powered by twin Volvo D8-IPS 800 diesels each developing 600 horsepower); it’s a striking optical sight watching her intoxicatingly taking flight up to a wide open speed near 28 knots (32 mph). Even more remarkable, for boaters looking to stretch their bucks, dropping down to 23 knots (26 mph) nets an approximate 300 nautical miles (345 miles) while burning around 56 gallons per hour at 2,250 rpm; and for those lazy days, a slow-go 10-knot (11.5-mph) cruising speed could conceivably exceed 500 nautical miles (575 miles).

ABSOLUTE FLY 56

Adding the phenomenal fuel burn expenditures for driving a three-level vessel to these impressive speeds has also left a notable mark on performance-minded motor boaters in this country, who are keen on luxury crafts that get up and go… but the feeling of freedom however, soars way past gas and going fast in the USA.

The Absolute FLY embraces a 360-degree panorama with the sea, whereby the blurred interior and exterior boundaries foster a free and peaceful connection with nature. Perceptible examples of this powerful serenity include my favorite spot on the oversized bathing platform, as well as, the clear stern terrace balustrade that does its part brightening up the aft, not to mention the cutaway bulwarks permitting drop-down window delivery of fresh air and the sun’s rays into the main cabin.

2 – Absolute FLY: Functional and Fabulous

The next match collectively fuses the Absolute FLY’s functional design features with some fabulous results. Ergonomics in the cockpit are many, and when standing in the captain’s zone, you can’t help but reach out and touch the high-quality surfaces. During days on the seas, the seating appointments reduce the need to constantly bend your neck downward, and the uninterrupted visibility from the central windows, work in tandem to reduce stress, increase safety, and make piloting pleasurable. And for long journeys when at the command station for hours on end, the darker decor also does its part interjecting an air of seriousness to the area, while the deeper color scheme promotes a more profound level of concentration and responsibility.

As for the right side door, it may seem like just another entrance or exit, but gathering insight from past highlighted reviews, it is in fact much more. It facilitates ease of communication with those on deck or at the docks, and aids the pilot when maneuvering through highly congested ports or constricted passages from Portland to New York City. Also notable, is the third docking station to starboard on the stern, which is equally instrumental navigating through narrow waterways.

Absolute Fly Absolute Yachts

Other functional elements garnering attention and worthy of a mention include: the rectangular linen covers; the highly efficient air conditioning system praised for the minimal sound it produces; and the relocation of the master suite to the front for increased privacy (most notably when docked stern-to) and calmness, given its distance from the rear engine room. What’s more, pleasing for all passengers is the tranquility derived from the new solar panels which permit the owner to power off the generator when anchored in the lakes and rivers of Middle America or off the Atlantic or Pacific Coast.

3 – Stylish and Smartly Thought-Out Spaces

The Absolute FLY line scores its last big win thanks to its stylish and smartly thought-out storage and social spaces, which, per multiple conversations with Absolute dealers, has been a strong contributing factor in boosting sales. Hearing this, after initially touring the motoryachts in Miami, I approached the Absolute FLY models at the Palm Beach Show from a more detailed perspective, seeking out lounging options where company could crash and counting spots to stash stuff.

I opened cabinets and cupboards. I pulled out bathroom drawers. I peeked inside the lockers. I even stepped in the glorious shower to admire its full-size dimensions and delightful window view to paradise (or in this case, a crowded boat show dock.) Basically, I touched everything I could get my hands on, and discovered unexpected spatial solutions everywhere. The message that was clear: Bring the bags! Bring the booze! Bring the beach balls! And, ladies, do bring all the shoes!

Optimizing living and social spaces was just as laudable as the storage places. Starting below deck and working my way up, the floor space around the forward-facing, king-size bed was tremendous, and the luxury of being able to treat your overnighters like VIPS in the full-beam cabin amidships is surely appreciative to them.

ABSOLUTE 56 FLY-exteriors

Moving on up and out, from the modular stern seating and settees, to the U-shaped sofa and sunpad on the foredeck, there’s a never-ending amount of areas for happy meals, happy hour, tanning time or taking timeout with the kids. Using the fly deck of the 52-footer as an example, remarkably, between the flexible patio astern, C-shaped dinette, dual helm, and front sunbed for three, you could technically host all 14 passengers – just be sure to have the grill on, the fridge full, and the bar stocked.

Dating back to its inception two decades past in 2002, Absolute has always sought to place both exceptionality and practicality at the pinnacle of its R&D, and at the forefront of its yacht creations. The fact that, each yacht is no bigger than 60 feet and possesses so much, is a major selling point for the North American market… and it’s plain to see from the Absolute FLY’s strong, stylish personality, how she has become an overnight shining star in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave!
