Excellent 2021 for the Baia-based shipyard, but Fiart won’t be at the Düsseldorf boot for obvious reasons

In its company report for the end of 2021, Fiart formally announces “it won’t be at the Düsseldorf Boat Show”, and the reason for this is sound and imposed by the state of emergency that is continuing without offering any certain horizons. All this is to the benefit of employees, who are favoured and enabled to work in less risky conditions than those offered by a crowded boat show in a European country on Omicron alert.

Fiart-shipyardBut the pandemic, paradoxically, is driving the yachting sector, because “it has reshaped the home-boat concept, capable of safely sharing free time with family and friends,” explains Fiart CEO Giancarlo di Luggo. This statement is also supported by the sector’s constant double-digit growth.

However, graphs are not always enough. We need choices “for everyone” so that yachting can grow better, opening up to a wider audience. And that only works if we move away from the logic of elitist mega-boats.

The Baia (Naples)-based boatyard, thanks to the imprinting of founder Ruggero di Luggo, is looking at recreational boating in this sense too. The aim is to produce boats that are strongly oriented towards the luxury yacht segment, but without forgetting their ease of use and accessibility, with maximum lengths of 16 meters. It all boils down to a concrete response to the needs of the market and customers, who are currently looking for alternatives to mass (old-fashioned) land-based tourism, which apart from offering few guarantees in terms of health emergencies, does not offer much in the way of ‘experience’ either. “Fiart’s walk-arounds interpret this need in the best possible way and thanks to our dealers who have contributed with commitment to promoting the Fiart philosophy in Italy and abroad, sales have increased exponentially compared to 2020, beyond all our expectations”, explains Giancarlo di Luggo.

End of 2021: results and forecasts at Fiart

2021 is closing on a positive note for Fiart, the historic Neapolitan shipyard. The production line is all “sold out” and “new orders” are still being acquired, as confirmed by Simone Lorenzano, general manager of Fiart. The company’s growth and development are also justified by an original communication approach, summed up in a latest-generation website and a truly innovative marketing strategy.

Fiart continues to focus on FIART_P54the owner and his needs. In 2021 it has done so by offering a choice of two new yachts, the Seawalker 35/39, and there is a surprising luxury novelty on the way: the iconic P54, designed by Stefano Pastrovich and expected in two different versions at next year’s Cannes Yachting Festival.

The Neapolitan shipyard is showing that it is able to keep faith with its long-standing tradition in the nautical field, but this is also helped by the strategy implemented this year with a major restructuring of internal processes and “the expansion of the sales network throughout Europe”. Fiart’s growth, the press release states, is global:with an important presence throughout the EMEA and APAC areas, counting today on a network of 37 partners“.

Among this year’s objectives, which were well met, in addition to increased production and customer satisfaction, was the important word ‘sustainability’, well supported by the choice of units with a lower environmental impact and appropriate investments in new models. It also includes a two million euro injection into development, engineering and mould making, modernization of production facilities and a 40% increase in human resources.

Furthermore, Fiart will be back to exhibiting in presence: “as soon as the health situation allows, we will be back to proposing events that can bring us together with the public, which in this 2021 has received with great enthusiasm the novelties we have presented in quick succession“. And if history does not contradict us, with the summer everything will be better to get together again to look at magnificent Made in Italy boats.

The nonsense of this year’s Boot Düsseldorf.

It’s no secret that the pandemic is making things difficult for boat shows all over the world, especially those held indoors and in winter. However, it’s a long way from being so stubborn as to want to do what reasonableness would absolutely advise against.
And so, while Germany is reporting the sad news of the record number of deaths, more than 500 a day, in a country where between 50 and 70 thousand new cases are recorded every day, Boot Düsseldorf, heedless of the rampant situation, sends out a splendid press release confirming that the boat show will definitely be held!
But this is not enough, because the same press release states that the reason for the certainty is due to a careful health protocol, the “PROTaction”, which ensures that masks will be worn and that only vaccinated or cured visitors will be allowed to enter the event, in other words what any normal person does when going shopping…
The climax of the nonsense, boot Düsseldorf Wolfram Dienerhowever, can be read in the statement by the event’s CEO Wolfram Diener who, and I quote literally, states “We have a responsibility towards our exhibitors”, which would be the same many companies that, in these days, are sending us press releases in which, out of a sense of responsibility towards their employees and customers, they announce the cancellation of their participation.

The context in which this is happening is also very interesting.
On the one hand, we have the boat show company, which, as usual, already has most (if not all) of the exhibitors’ participation fees in its treasury, and on the other hand, the exhibitors who are cancelling in the knowledge that they are losing their money.
Another important fact to bear in mind is that the Düsseldorf boat show is a indoor show that, moreover, is located in the heart of Germany. A lot of time and money is needed to get yachts here, so knowing in advance whether or not the event will be held is vital for exhibitors who, if it is cancelled late, will find themselves with a fleet of boats that is “out of water”.
In short, a real detective story that, in my humble opinion, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH would have a duty to unravel as soon as possible, hopefully drawing on the sense of civic responsibility that we should all have in this situation.

A sense of responsibility that Giovanni Pomati, CEO of Nautor Group, clearly demonstrates when he explains the cancellation of Swan‘s participation in Boot Düsseldorf with these words: “This wasn’t a light-hearted decision but the safety of our employees, visitors and clients is our priority and we are not prepared to jeopardize their well-being.
On the other hand, it is hard to understand how 250,000 people arriving from all over the world in one of the most affected countries in Europe can travel, stay in Düsseldorf, interact for days, and then return to their home countries without any consequences.
Consequences that, in a chain, involve families and companies throughout Europe and trigger a further spread of the virus that nobody really needs.
Consequences that the Boot Düsseldorf should, in our opinion, seriously reflect upon.

Naval Tecno Sud Boat Stand has reached the final stage of assembling a protective cabin built expressly for Sanlorenzo Yachts. This is yet another flag to add to the large-scale structural works carried out by the internationally operating company headed by Roberto Spadavecchia at its Bari-based headquarters.

The new cabin, built Naval-Tecno-Sud-Boat-Stand-3for the well-known Ligurian shipyard, measures 28.5 meters in length and 20 meters in width, while its height is up to 14 meters.

The work was supervised in every detail by Barbara Spadavecchia, who, with great dedication, managed to fully satisfy the request of the prestigious client.

As for the production time: the work to build the structure took about 45 days, while assembly took just 15 days.

How a Naval Tecno Sud Boat Stand cabin is made

The structural peculiarities of the work consist in the fact that this is a double cabin, where the larger volume is fixed while the other cabin is telescopic on rails and is basically inserted into the main volume. If necessary, as explained, this extension opens further to lengthen the size of the structure itself and accommodate larger boats inside.

In the world of yachting, Naval Tecno Sud Boat Stand is a further example of the kind of corporate excellence that makes Made in Italy proud. A Tricolour brand that, as is well known, constantly renews its popularity abroad, especially in the nautical sector. It is no coincidence that Naval Tecno Sud Boat Stand will be present at the METS Amsterdam (booth 05.267,EL.412), as the flagship of the accessories-structural market in the yachting sector. And it is no coincidence that the materials used for this cabin are all Italian, from iron to PVC, as is also the design study carried out, we repeat, by Barbara Spadavecchia.

boat shelter cabinSpeaking of costs, the administration offices are keen to stress that: “Naval Tecno Sud’s cabin is a CE certified product, and despite the use of high quality all-Italian materials, we are able to compete even with products manufactured and sourced in Asia, an area where the cost of transport has increased along with the cost of simple production”.

This cabin will soon be followed by the installation of another one at Cala Saccaia in Sardinia. Then Naval Tecno Sud Boat Stand will be involved in the construction of a larger cabin, which will be mounted this time in Malta. “Owners want to have their boats under cover, and shipyards too have realized that this type of cabin, as well as being highly competitive in terms of price, has considerable advantages over sheds, including the possibility of moving the cabin to the desired location at will,” explains Roberto Sapadavecchia.

As far as environmental sustainability is concerned, these cabins can also be reused in several places and technically for several purposes: the example of an 80-meter-long cabin commissioned a couple of years ago by Fincantieri for the construction of a bridge in Romania, along a river shipyard on the Danube, is worth mentioning. The same cabin, which was dismantled and transported, was then reused in Valeggio sul Mincio (Verona), at one of the shipbuilding giant’s sites.

Post-Covid boating is back on track stronger than even, but needs government support

The pandemic tsunami has swept through all sectors of the world economy.  Only one sector has withstood the impetuous impact of the Covid-19 crisis and is ready to restart strongerpost-Covid boating than ever: the boating industry, especially the Italian one. Yes, you’ve got it right: the Italian boating industry has gritted its teeth in a disastrous 2020 and is now preparing to relaunch in grand style but, to do so, it needs significant support. The Government, in fact, is called upon to support the maritime sector, which is one of the most strategic segments of Italy and therefore one of the main drivers of the country’s recovery in terms of both production and tourism.

With a supply chain that employs 180,000 people and world leadership in industrial production as its driving force, the sector requires a proactive contribution from all the public players involved in terms of operational capacity, experience and knowledge of the materials involved, in order to develop a medium- and long-term project within a multi-sectorial vision and integrated perspective.

Even before being a frontier, the sea is a fundamental resource for Italy, a pillar of our country, the showcase of inland territories living in symbiosis with ports and coasts, an environmental asset to be protected.

Saverio-Cecchi-UCINA
Saverio Cecchi, President of UCINA Condinfustria Nautica

Hence the message jointly launched by Unioncamere, Confindustria Nautica (the Italian Boating Industry Confederation) and Assonat, which loudly emphasize the need to identify professional figures increasingly capable of enhancing the boating sector and the maritime world in general, taking into account the economic and social importance they represent, and meeting the expectations of entrepreneurs, sector operators, citizens and international users.

Therefore, now more than ever, the rapid adoption of the new Regulation implementing the Nautical Code, the appointment of the new General Commander of the Port Authorities and the strengthening of the Maritime Transport Directorate of the MIMS, also with the introduction of new resources, are of strategic importance, also in view of their coincidence in time.

The boating industry has shown solidity and compactness in the most critical year since the post-war period. The unexpected success of the 60th Genoa International Boat Show last autumn (when the virus was looming again) and the excellent results of the recently concluded Venice Boat Show are the clearest proof of this. But in order to win the battles of the future, the post-Covid boating industry inevitably needs fresh, enterprising and far-sighted forces.

Originally postponed to April, boot Dusseldorf has now been called off for 2022

Boot Düsseldorf 2021 doesn’t have to be done. All postponed to next year, boot-dusseldorf-sailing yachtswhen, we hope, the pandemic will be over or at least it will have loosened its grip. For now, it is not possible: Covid has started to advance also in Germany, for this reason the Messe Düsseldorf, supporter of the exhibition, has decided postpone the event, thus failing to promise to hold the boat show from April 17-25.

Yes, because if on the one hand respecting the original dates of the show, which would start tomorrow, was considered an almost remote possibility, given the second wave of Coronavirus that was overwhelming all of Europe during last autumn, on the other the postponement to spring didn’t seem like a gamble.

In the meantime, however, the number of infections has risen again, hence the painful and final decision of the organizers to cut the head off by moving the event directly to January 22-30, 2022.

boot-dusseldorf-2020-motor-yachts” The continuing high level of infection and the fact that the end of the lockdown is not foreseeable for the time being make a resumption of trade fair operations at the end of April appear increasingly unrealistic- said Wolfram N. Diener, CEO of Messe Düsseldorf –We have reassessed the situation with our partners and jointly decided to cancel boot 2021 early. Our priority is the health and planning security of our exhibitors, visitors and service providers. All activities will now be focused on the successful staging of boot 2022.”

The aim is to return to the concept of the world’s largest indoor boat show both as an event for all water sports enthusiasts and as a business and networking platform for the international trade audience.

Furthermore, for 2022, work is also underway on aboot-dusseldorf-2020-top-view hybrid trade fair experience that will, among other things, enable digital participation in seminars and events at boot Düsseldorf.

In short, Boot Düsseldorf is updated edition after edition, keeping up with the technological times. Virtual times and methods that have undergone a sudden acceleration especially last year for the reasons already widely mentioned.

See you in exactly 12 months. Covid permitting.

Amer Yachts presents Volvo Penta with a study on the noise reduction of Swedish engines

A gift for the future, a forward-looking gift. As part of the Nobel Week Sanremo 2020, anAmer Volvo Penta Nobel Week event dedicated to Nobel Prizes and relationships between Sanremo and Sweden, the Italian boatbuilder Amer Yachts presented the famous Swedish manufacturer of marine engines Volvo Penta with the results of an independent study on the reduction of its engines’ underwater noise.

Carried out last summer in collaboration with Istituto Catena, the research was received by Andrea Piccione, Volvo Penta Sales Manager for Italy while a copy will be make available by Volvo Penta Head Office in Sweden to allow the Scandinavian industry to analyze it and implement the technical data collected during the survey.

We carried out our tests on a 100 meter seabed to detect the noise emissions – explained Barbara Amerio, CEO and Sustenaibility Director di Amer Yachts –  Carried out in collaboration with Catena, the study is called ” A gift for the future” and is intended to give Volvo Penta the data so that it can acquire and elaborate them”.

We thank Amer and Barbara for this gift that consolidates our partnership with the shipyard – claimed Andrea Piccione – All data will be used to improve and develop Volvo Penta products in the perspective of the group’s vision which is that of sustainability and lower environmental impact“.

The partnership between the Italian city and Sweden therefore continues with the ” A gift for the future” formula, a symbolic gift that represents tradition, innovation and commitment for an increasingly eco-friendly world.

Amer Volvo Penta Villa NobelNot surprisingly, during the Nobel Week events at Nobel House in Sanremo last year, Barbaria Amerio mentioned the foresight of Alfred Nobel, who committed his legacy to relaunch the future and leave a positive trace of hope in all those who believe in progress, culture and research.

Since then, due to the Covid-19 health emergency, 12 complicated months have passed and the participation of Amer Yachts in this prestigious event today takes on an ever deeper meaning. The Permare Group company, in fact, has decided to follow in the footsteps of the great Swedish scientist and make a gesture towards the future, an act of research donation to a strategic partner like Volvo Penta, which has always been particularly sensitive to the green deal issues.

Furthermore, during this edition of the Nobel Week, the company presented an important initiative that sees the support of Amer Yachts STEAMiamoci, a project promoted by Assolombarda to reduce the gender gap with the creation of four scholarships, sponsored by Confindustria Imperia and the Sanremo-based shipyard, for virtuous students who will choose STEAM subjects in scientific faculties. The call for scholarships for 2021 will be published on the Confindustria Imperia website.

Virtual Boat Show : the digital revolution is Covid-proof

Virtual Boat Show 2The recent cancellation of the Cannes Yachting Festival after the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in France has unfortunately shown how digital tools are today the only possible, reliable and safe alternative to the traditional information- boat visit- purchase process.

It is therefore no surprise that the Virtual Boat Show by The International Yachting Media, launched just over two months ago, has already registered 250,000 visits.

When we decided to create our virtual boat show, we wanted a system capable of offering much more than a virtual boat tour. We therefore built a portal capable of gathering, on a single web page, all the information necessary for the owner to make an informed choice: sea trials, publications about the model selected, virtual tours, videos and links to the shipyard’s web and social pages” –

states Luca D’Ambrosio, the creator of Virtual Boat ShowAbsolute yachts

But it was not enough. We wanted the reader to have the possibility to book a confidentia, and therefore safe, visit on board the boat or, more simply, to come into direct contact with the shipyard, without any intermediation. A perfect system, both to enjoy a boat show with all the precautions needed and not to miss the novelties in the event that events are cancelled”.

The Virtual Boat Show is an innovative and international tool. Users, in fact, can read both the sea trials and most of content in their native language, clicking on the specific flag that gives access to the publications of the five international magazines of the group.

Six theme sections for the Virtual Boat Show

The Virtual Boat Show, whose navigation is fast and easy, is made up of six large sections: Motorboats, Maxi Rib, Sailing yachts, Catamarans, Inflatable boat and Boat Supplies. The latter gathers the world’s top nautical equipment manufacturers as well as some prestigious and equipped marinas.

Virtual Boat Show Tiym DigestFurthermore, this full digital immersion experience offers the opportunity to read, full-page and without advertising, the amazing sailboat, superyacht and Maxi Rib reviews published on The International Yachting Media Digest, as proof of the significant interconnection between the Virtual Boat Show and our browsable quarterly digital magazine.

In short, a system that can easily cope with the emergencies of the coming months because, we always like to remember that,” Buy a boat, the virus can’t swim“.

Not surprisingly, while the means of transportation, hotels and villages were deserted this summer, the sea was full of boats and yachting has fortunately registered yet another growth.

The news of the cancellation of the Cannes Yachting Festival is not a surprise.Cannes-Yachting-Festival This week, the French government extended its ban on mass gatherings of over 5,000 people and, unfortunately, the French Boat Show, with its 30,000 visitors, was fully within this range.

The decision is due and responsible, considering that the only Cannes Yachting Festival operators are more than 3,000. The cancellation of the event falls within the area of responsibility of the Prefect of Cannes, who was rightly adamant about this decision.

In the next hours, an official press release will be issued by Red Exhibitions, the world’s leading company in the organization of trade fairs which, every year, organizes events with over 7 million visitors all over the world.

The next international boat show scheduled is that of Genoa which, also thanks to its structure, is s for now confirmed, supported by the last ministerial decree that, while on the one hand has closed discos, on the other has confirmed the possibility of holding trade fairs.

The Genoa Boat Show is scheduled to take place from Thursday 1 to Tuesday 6 October 2020.

To see what would have been exhibited at Cannes Yachting Festival 2020, however, there is a simple, fast and safe way: just click on the following link and discover the most interesting novelties of the years.

Guide to International Boat Shows

Alternatively, to enjoy a more complete experience, you can visit the Virtual Boat Show of The International Yachting Media which, in addition to being free, also offers the possibility to visit boats, contact the shipyards and book your visit or sea trial in total safety.

This is certainly the system that will be used the most in the near future to choose a boat.

The Virtual Boat Show is a content aggregator which collects all the information, some in absolute preview, about the models built by the world’s best boat manufacturers. Sea trials, virtual tours, boat videos and the best shots are all concentrated in the virtual boat show.

In this period, receiving the news that, despite everything, the organizers of the 2020 Cannes Yachting Festival have confirmed that this year’s show will go ahead is a really great thing.

The event, which launches the “boat shows season”,Cannes Yachting Festival in fact, will be held from September 8th to 13th and will fully comply with the protective measures that UNIMEV, the French professional federation of the events industry, will submit to the French government to restrict the spread of Coronavirus. The aim is to open the Yachting Festival 2020 in such a way as to allow the event to be held in the best possible conditions and in full compliance with the protection of exhibitors and visitors.

Despite the closure of offices due to lockdown, the staff of the Cannes Yachting Festival, thanks to the implementation of new solutions internationally developed by Reed Exhibitions, has managed to adapt its own organization to serenely prepare the 43rd edition. All collaborators, both in France and abroad, are working remotely and with great enthusiasm, as confirmed by the number and extent of the novelties of the next edition.

Among them, the Quai Saint Pierre at Vieux Port will gather all the fast day boats of the show. The Quai Max Lauberf, instead, has been redesigned to house a new marina which will welcome motor-powered multihulls. Out of the water, the area dedicated to inboards and outboards which was launched last year has been redesigned to offer greater visibility and comfort to engine manufacturers for small and medium-sized units.

The Luxury Gallery, although the current context does not allow to know its content and definitive form in details, will be dedicated to luxury, crafts and lifestyle within a new layout. At Port Canto, the Sailing Area has been designed with the approximately 110 boats registered to date, sixty of which exceed 15 m.

The 6th Concours d’Elegance, exclusively for exhibitors, motor boats and day boats of less than 12 metres, will be held on Saturday September 12th.

The sea access between the two ports has been increased and will benefit from enhanced signage. In addition, a new catering area is planned.

Sylvie Ernoult Cannes Yachting FestivalMany customers with whom I have spoken are hoping that the Yachting Festival can be the light at the end of the tunnel. And even if there are still many steps to take before opening this year’s Yachting Festival, this hope is a goal for us. Our teams are doing everything possible to accommodate customers and provide them with the necessary flexibility while ensuring that work schedules are respected, thereby enabling everything to be operational in due course. We have set up a team responsible for adapting the new health standards to the festival and will deploy all necessary means for their implementation”,

– says Show Director Sylvie Ernoult –

We wish courage and energy to all our exhibitors, partners and service providers in this unprecedented time! The Festival’s team and I look forward to finding them and welcoming them to Cannes on September.”

A great news that makes us happy.

Cannes-GenoaHowever, the only discordant note comes from a phrase contained in the press release, with which the organization claims that the Cannes Yachting Festival is the largest in-water boat show in Europe.

We already dealt with this issue some years ago, the Cannes organization is not in fact new to this claim which is wrong. Europe’s largest boat show is always the Genoa International Boat Show which, for the record, boasts an exhibition area of 199,457 square meters (without considering the floors of pavilion B). Cannes Yachting Festival, instead, has an exhibition area of 178,726 square meters, all in-water areas included.

Luca D’Ambrosio on Tg2 Italia: “It’s not true that boats are only for the wealthy”

Boat holidays, safe and cheap holidays. That’s the topic dealt Luca D'Ambrosio TG2 Italiaby our Editor in Chief Luca D’Ambrosio, interviewed by Tg2 Italia during the episode of May 8th in which there was talk of tourism not only from a work-related point of view but also in terms of tourist behaviour in this time of restrictions.

Luca D’Ambroio strongly emphasized the need to dispel, once and for all, the myth that having a boat or taking a boat holiday is something exclusively reserved for the wealthiest people. There are boats for all budgets, from the cheapest to the most luxurious ones. Buying a used 8-9 meter boat, which is the best option for a 4-people holiday, is equivalent to purchasing a medium-sized car – D’Ambrosio explained – If, in addition to summer holidays, we plan to use the boat also for our weekends on board, at the end of the year, we will realize that we have spent less than we would have paid for a conventional holiday”.

If they don’t choose a very large or luxurious boat, families can spend from 2 to 5 thousand euros for a couple of weeks on board their own boat or a charter one.

boat campingMr. D’Ambrosio, at the helm of The International Yachting Media for 7 years, has remembered that there is also another very cheap solution to spend holidays at sea: boat camping which, with a certain certain dose of spirit of adaptation, can make families enjoy the most beautiful places of the world at very low costs.

Another concept stressed by Luca D’Ambrosio is that the boat is the safest place to spend time. If the the sea water – and virologists all agree on this – is able to cancel the spread of the virus, then it is easy to understand how a boat holiday is absolutely safe.

During the episode, the talk also focused on the possible risk of crowding in the ports. The matter, according to our Editori in Chief, is already solved: “This phenomenon does not exist in Italy since the country has 7,500 kilometers of coastlines and almost a thousand port facilities. As a result, it will have no particular problems in distributing tourists and therefore to manage any gatherings of people “.

Furthermore, boat holidaysas for the costs, most Italian marinas offer very competitive fees: for a 8/10-meter boat, for example, they range from 30 to 50 euros per day. Without forgetting that the marinas are already preparing to comply with the rules of social distancing and sanitation of common areas.

In short, boat holidays are not only the cheapest but also the safest holiday option today. And, with this, any taboo is dispelled.
