Here is a list of great things to do when it's snowy or cold in Prague during winter, with options where you can embrace the cold and snow or escape it, depending on your preference. Don't let the colder months stop you from taking the vacation of your dreams... Instead, pack a heavy coat and get ready to experience the coolest side of the Czech capital!
#1 Visit a Christmas Market
If you're heading to Prague during December, don't miss the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful markets in Europe (and there's more Christmas markets you should visit).
#2 Go to „Spa on a Boat" (Lázně na lodi)
This uncommon spa located on Náplavka (tram stop Výtoň) offers a Finish style sauna with amazing view of Hradčany. Its capacity is 15 people and its facilities include an indoor and outdoor relaxation area.
Opening hours: Monday – Sunday, from 6 PM till 11 PM (reservation recommended)
#3 Glide around the rink
It's time to ice skate! So, get your skates sharpened and your laces tied or rent your ice skates. Prague has a lot of outdoor public skating rinks, located in the heart of the city. Prefer to be indoors? Head to one of the ice arenas. Let's ask our Local Tereza what the options are.
#4 Pub Quiz Time
If you plan to escape the cold, why not go to a bar that organizes pub quizzes? While you're drinking, you can show off your smartness and – if you are lucky – even win. Cool place to go is the BasementBar near Krymská stop (every Monday at 8 PM, 100 CZK entry per team).
#5 Stroll up the Petřín hill
Certainly an activity for both winter and summer, the walk gets really romantic when the park is snowed in. And with a visit to Petřín lookout tower (after having conquered the 299 steps) or laughing in the mirror maze will definitely warm you up.
#6 Watch a movie
Winter is the perfect time to go to a cinema. Somewhat different from the multiplexes are the independent movie theaters with unique atmosphere. Bio OKO, Světozor, Atlas or Aero offer documentaries, as well as new release movies from around the globe. Follow their program not to miss special screenings, festivals and other interesting movie events.
#7 Take a trip out of Prague
Well, Prague is a pulsating city and sometimes it feels good to get out. Kutná Hora is not that far away (you get there easily with public transportation) and therefore the perfect spot for a day trip. Or how about a trip to Terezín or Cannabis Castle? Still need more inspiration? We've already collected few interesting trips out of Prague.
#8 Sing your favourite songs
If you are able to sing along any Lady Gaga, Elvis Presley or Karel Gott song, the Karaoke Night in La Loca Music Bar is the perfect place for you. Don't worry if your voice is not Lorde's, in the end, it does not matter. With enough beers everyone will sing/scream/howl along.
#9 Learn to climb
During winter, you might feel like you are not doing enough to keep in shape. Indoor climbing is a great total-body workout to get strong and burn calories. There are a couple of bouldering gyms in Prague and you can spend a whole afternoon there, either alone or with our Local Jakub.
#10 Experience exit games
Whether you call them "escape games", "exit games", "puzzle escape rooms" or "escape the room" games, you can find different game themes all across Prague (and even an outdoor ecsape game - here on Guidilo available).
#11 Try cross-country skiing
You don't need to leave Prague to enjoy some winter sports. Velká Chuchle is famous for horse racing, but it's also a great place for cross-country skiing. Even if it doesn't snow, artificial snow is always there, regularly maintained to satisfy lovers of classic style and skating style skiing.
