We're only human, no one is perfect and we all make mistakes. Vacations are supposed to be stress-free and fun, yet there are many things that can potentially go wrong. If it can happen to the savviest travelers, it can happen to you too. So we advise to be prepared - when you start to plan your next vacation to Prague, don't make these common travel mistakes.

Mistake #1: Skimping on research
Do some research beforehand to plan ahead, to understand different cultures and to know the spots to visit (or avoid). Don't waste your vacation time, you definitely don't want to leave the country without experiencing what its known for.

Mistake #2: Overpacking
Before you travel, make a list of places you will visit and activities you have planned, and then pack accordingly. There is no way you are going to wear all six pairs of those high heels that you packed. Besides, you avoid paying excess baggage fees (review your airline's baggage regulations before you pack).

Mistake #4: Traveling without travel insurance
Stay relaxed and worry-free during your vacation times. Put a little bit into travel insurance before the trip – it could save you lots of money in the long run. Despite we're hoping you never have to use it!

Mistake #5: Booking based only on pictures and a low price
Seek out credible traveler reviews and photos before you book your trip. To find the reviews most relevant to you, filter for reviews by travelers like yourself. Trustworthy reviews can be found on Yelp or TripAdvisor

Mistake #6: Buying tickets for the wrong day
Double check your calendar before making any reservations and consider travel dates set in stone. And then check your ticket once again one week before your departure. Just to be sure.

Mistake #7: Forgetting to double-check your departure time
Find another connection to get wherever you need. Go by road / train / plane. Not possible? Wait until that next connection and explore a bit more of the place where you are right now.

Mistake #8: Keeping all your money in one place
Don't carry all your cash or cards in one place. Split up between your traveling companions or in different places within your belongings. Take advantage of the hotel's safety deposit boxes for your valuables.

Mistake #9: Relying totally on guidebooks
Millions of other travelers have this guidebook, too. The places announced in „your" guidebook are likely crowded and touristy. Instead, live like a local and seek out the lesser-known sights and experiences.

Mistake #10: Using your cell phone in a foreign country
Before you go on a trip, contact your service provider to inquire about overseas fees and packages for voice, text and data. If you're travelling for a longer period of time, buy yourself a local phone card or use Wi-Fi connection.

Mistake #11: Using a credit card to get cash
Credit card companies charge a high transaction fee for using a card to get cash. Change your money before you go or on the spot (bank or recommended exchange offices), but alwys be aware of the exchange rate. Check your credit card company's contact information before your trip, just in case it isn't working abroad or you need to cancel your card.

Mistake #12: Losing your passport
Make two copies of your passport (one leave at home with a friend or family member and keep the other one tucked away in your suitcase) or scan it and email it to yourself - while you're at it, include the contact information of your country's embassy.

Mistake #13: Sticking to tourist traps
Some of the most interesting places are not big tourist centres. So put your map down and simply get lost. It's amazing what you can see when you get off the beaten path.

Mistake #14: Looking like a tourist
If you make it obvious you are a tourist, you make yourself a target for pickpockets and other unscrupulous characters. Take your camera off your neck and blend in with the locals.
