Prague can sometimes be a difficult place to navigate, especially for first time visitors. Luckily, technology has made discovering a new city much easier these days. If you have a smartphone, there's no need to feel lost. Here are a few of our favorite travel apps for exploring Prague - even as a Praguer!
#1 Cool Czech Guide
Finding trendy and popular venues for young travelers has gotten a whole lot easier! Powered by CzechTourism this free app helps you make the most of your time in Prague. Features not only a map, guides, restaurant and hotel recommendations, but also infinite number of useful information about traveling in the Czech Republic in seven languages (Czech, English, German, Polish, French, Spanish and Italian).
If you are a fan of photography then you will definitely love this app. Fripito is a virtual travel-photo-guide bookstore with strong community made by photographers for photographers. And with their Inspiration Guide, you'll learn things ordinary visitors haven't got the faintest idea of. Best of all, there are guides of the world's biggest cities, each stuffed with comprehensive insights and in 7 languages available.
This app is useful in discovering amazing activities and places around the city with personalized, curated recommendations. For each activity you can see a description in your own language, view the photo gallery, access to website and above all be routed directly from the app by clicking a single button that will activate the offline navigation. Everything free of charge!
#4 Use-it maps
Nothing makes you more of an easy target on streets than looking like a stereotypical tourist, wielding an oversize street map and an expensive camera dangling around your neck... Not anymore with the mobile version of popular USE-IT maps: free, not commercial and made by young locals!
Check out their insider tips to unlock the capital – best insider tips on what to see & do and where the locals go.
#5 IDOS - Public Transport
The best app for finding train connection (including European long-distance trains) and bus connection between cities or villages as well as finding connection in single city by local transport or combined connections. Punch your origin and destination, as well as the day of the week and time you're traveling and it will find the shortest ride. It allows the traveler to purchase online travel tickets for up to nine cities of the Czech Republic. Best of all? It's free!
So maybe you don't want to take a subway and you actually need a cab. This app has you covered.
Liftago helps you find cabs on any street corner you're on. It connects passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire and ridesharing services. Passengers wait less for the lift while drivers are happy they don't have to spend money and time ineffectively by driving long distance for customers. Hard to beat that!
Okay so you don't just need directions and subway routes, you also need something to do! Here's the app for you. Yelp allows users to search for nearby restaurants, bars, businesses and stores and also provides photos and - as you'd expect -plenty of opinionated user reviews of venues.
#8 Wi-Fi Finder
This app will help you find WiFi hotspots in more than 144 countries around the world. The most exciting thing about the app is that you don't need to be connected to Internet to find the nearest hotspot - using the GPS function on your smartphone, the Wi-Fi finder will tell you exactly where the closest Wi-Fi hotspot is, and how to get there.
#9 Czech Film Trips
Whether you're a movie nut or an aspiring filmmaker who wants to get better at location scouting, then we have the app for you - Czech Film Trips maps out the actual spots where your favorite films were shot. The app contains more than 300 films from all over the Czech Republic. The detail of a film location offers photos from the film, current photos and an extract from the film that was shot on the location. Learn fun facts from film locations and peek behind the film scenes!

Big thanks to Jeff for mentioning CG Transport. Travelers can use the offline public transport trip planner not only for Prague, but also for the whole Czech Republic (and even Slovakia).
Thank you Mona for bringing our attention to Google Translate. As we know, sometimes it isn't so simple to find here someone who speaks your language (or English at least :-) And finding an internet connection seems to be easier...
