“The INNOVATION ROUTE”, innovation at the service of experience and sustainable boating. Enhancing the appeal of the boating sector and meeting environmental requirements are the cornerstones of the boating industry. Electric or hybrid propulsion systems, bio-based composite materials, energy optimization solutions, and smart onboard systems: shipyards and OEMs are multiplying tangible innovations not only to reduce environmental impact, but also to meet growing expectations in terms of comfort, connectivity, ease of use, and the pleasure of navigation.
Today, innovation is no longer seen only in terms of performance or environmental impact, but as a global response to the new lifestyles of boaters: intuitive sailing, automated equipment, ease of maintenance, onboard connectivity, optimized comfort, and modular living spaces.
Since 2018, the global market for electric motors in pleasure boats has grown by 30%, the use of bio-based materials in shipbuilding by 35%, and the installation of solar panels on leisure craft by 40%. Figures that clearly illustrate the direction taken by builders and OEMs, who are accelerating their commitment to an eco-responsible transition while also meeting the expectations of a new generation of users: demanding, connected, mobile, and concerned about their impact. In this context, the Cannes Yachting Festival, Europe’s largest in-water boat show, the first event of the nautical season and an unmissable meeting point for the industry, is renewing its Innovation Route, a true showcase of groundbreaking technologies and sustainable approaches. The 2025 edition includes new exhibitors and introduces the “Innovation Route Awards” to reward the most outstanding projects, shining a spotlight on the players shaping more attractive and sustainable boats without compromising performance or pleasure.
2025: an edition focused on impact
For its new edition, the Innovation Route expands with fresh features and aims to highlight solutions with high impact potential. Boats, equipment, or services selected by a panel of experts will be identified with dedicated signage and enjoy greater visibility during the show.
“Beyond presenting world premieres and boats at the cutting edge of design, the role of the Cannes Yachting Festival is also to showcase the technological and environmental advances that move boundaries and redefine standards in the boating sector. Through the Innovation Route, we consulted several experts and established a four-category classification to highlight exhibitors who are concretely engaged in the decarbonization of the sector with proven solutions—electric propulsion, bio-based materials, intelligent systems—that represent a profound and sustainable transformation of the industry, as well as new technologies that will enhance the boating experience. The Innovation Route is also a powerful tool for visitors, helping them navigate towards the most innovative and responsible products”, explains Sylvie Ernoult, Director of the Cannes Yachting Festival.
